Hiring: Farm Intern – Northfield Mount Herman

Northfield Mount Hermon, an independent co-educational boarding school in western Massachusetts, seeks a mature and energetic individual with agricultural experience to assist will all duties associated with operating a small scale, educational farm.

The position’s responsibilities range from educating and working closely with students, community members and volunteers to the harvesting/distilling of lavender, harvesting vegetables and raspberries, assisting with all aspects of milk production – milking, cheese and ice cream making—and cider production.  Our farm’s largest crop and production is maple sugaring – tapping, collecting, and processing.

The ideal candidate will have a degree in agriculture or equivalent experience.  Essential qualifications include the ability to lead and supervise volunteers and student groups, as well as work independently.   This position requires the ability to do heavy lifting and to work the long hours in all weather conditions associated with farming.  Candidates must have a valid driver’s license and reliable personal transportation.  Candidates should possess a demonstrated interest in making a positive impact on the lives and learning of adolescents, experience in diversity work and an eagerness to work with a diverse student body in a boarding school environment.
