DEERFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – It’s early September but it’s already starting to feel like fall in Franklin County.
There’s apple picking and the leaves are starting to change color, both of which attract tourists.
“The fresh fruit, fresh vegetables, there’s farm stands all over the place,” said Frank Pydych of Deerfield. “It’s a great scenic drive for people looking to get away for a day or for the weekend.”
Franklin County farm stands rely on the increase in traffic during the fall foliage season.
“We see people all the time come straight up the road and then they would turn around by our neighbors house and then come back down and say what do you have for sale,” said Dylan Bliss, Co-Owner of Four Brothers Farm Stand in Greenfield.
Leef peeping isn’t the only reason people come up to Franklin County during the fall. There are many other fall activities like apple picking, which you can already do at many farms and orchards. Clarkdale Fruit Farms in Deerfield opened their “Pick Your Own Apples” Labor Day weekend. The better the color, the better the business.
“Later September and early October is when we really have the great peak foliage and this year hopefully it’ll be a normal year and there will be good vivid colors because that really brings people in,” said Ben Clark, Co-Owner of Clardale Fruit Farms in Deerfield.
Clark told 22News they have an abundance of apples this year due to great pollination, healthy trees, and plenty of rain this summer.
Clark said most of their apples right now are mcintosh, but they also have the sweeter gala and ginger gold apples.
