Valley Bounty, April 13: Cheese

Chase Hill cheeseSeveral local farms make delicious cheese from the milk of their own cows or goats. Fresh cheeses range from paneer, perfect for cooking, to creamy, spreadable chevre or salty feta. Aged yellow rounds of cheese are also available at local retailers, direct from farms, or at farmers’ markets, starting up soon for the summer! Use one in a favorite recipe, or try serving a platter of local cheeses.

You might also want to try making your own cheese. If you act fast, NOFA is offering cheesemaking workshops this weekend. If you miss those, watch CISA’s events page for more.  And remember to join our Local Hero Challenge and share the ways that you are getting ready for the growing season—whether by learning a new skill like cheesemaking, joining a CSA, or planning a garden.
