CSA Farm Shares

Community Supported Agriculture, or CSA, farms provide customers with a share of the harvest through regular distributions all season long. CSA members generally pay up front, providing the farm with income during the season of planting and preparation, although many farms offer payment plans. CSA members share some of the risks of farming, and may receive more of one product and less of another depending on weather and other factors. Other businesses offer “farm share cards” or “market cards”, which are similar in spirit but offer customers a credit of a specific dollar amount at the farm’s farm stand or farmers’ market booth, often at a discount.

UMassFive College Federal Credit Union offers a no-interest Farm Share Loan, for those who would prefer the option to pay the cost of their share over the course of six months while still giving the farm crucial up-front funding. All CISA Community Members are eligible for UMassFive loans and services.

Book & Plow Farm, Amherst

(413) 687-2688,  bookandplowfarm@gmail.com

Book & Plow Farm pigs are raised outside of captivity, on pasture, with access to food, water, and shade.  These pigs perform a great service to the farm in renovating marginal land, eating our vegetable waste, consuming the dining hall’s vegetable waste, and returning nitrogen back to the soil through their digestive systems.  For that, we’ve worked hard to keep them fed, watered, clean and cool, all outside, all on pasture, all with no hormones or synthetic growth stimulants — just veggies and grain! The Pork Package: $200.00 for roughly 25 pounds of pork:  4lbs — Bone-in Shoulder, 5lbs — Pork Chops (10 chops), 11lbs — Sausage links,  5lbs – bacon. Click here for more information.
