Our mission is threefold: engage students in collaborative and productive farm labor; provide quality produce to our college community; and offer people space on campus to connect with food, land, and each other. Our produce is available at Valentine Hall through Dining Services and through a weekly CSA share in the fall.
PYO flowers and herbs
Book & Plow Farm runs a 12 week CSA program from September to November. The share is open to the general public, not just Amherst College community members. We aim to have a large diversity of crops each week and operate on a free-choice system. You get a tote bag at the first pick up and fill it with whatever is available that week. Along with fresh veggies, we also send out a weekly newsletter which includes the harvest list and recipes highlighting new crops each week. You can expect summery crops for the first few weeks, (peppers, zucchini, tomatoes, cucumbers), salad mix is available most weeks, asian greens and roots as the weather cools off, and potatoes, roots, and winter squash with frost sweetened kale for the final pick ups. On average we have 15 different crops available each week.
Price: Base sliding scale from $250 to $350. We accept SNAP and HIP. We also offer flexible or week-by-week payment. If you can’t afford the share, but want to participate, please reach out! We’ve got several subsidized shares available.
