Regenerative Practices for Stewarding Floodplain at a Community Farm in a Changing Climate

September 21 @ 11:00 am - 12:30 pm

Join us at Grow Food Northampton Community farm, a 121 acre farm situated on the floodplains of mill river near Florence Center. Changing climate is bringing floods at unexpected times, more recently in 2023 when we got flooded 4 times within a span of a year. Hear from two farms, Ras Farm and Flowerwork Farm, about regenerative practices they are adopting to be ready for the next flood including living pathways, no-till, permanent beds, micro irrigation and mulching.

These strategies protect and build soil which is crucial for climate resilience. Also hear from Grow Food Northampton, how a community farm is a social infrastructure which provides an avenue for community to support land justice work, an important aspect of climate resilience.
