SUMMARY:Old Friends Farm Presents: The Washed Up Beulah Band in concert
DESCRIPTION:If you know them\, you love them. If you haven’t heard them yet\, you are in for a real treat! The Washed Up Beulah Band is a quartet of singers who formed during the 2012 Northern Harmony Tour of Europe. They perform Jubilee style radio-quartet music from the 1930s and 1940s. They perform a unique singing style that bridges the gap between sacred and popular music. The quartet breaths new life into traditional African-American spirituals\, hymns\, and folk songs by tapping into the playfulness and pizazz of rag-time\, blues\, and jazz–making them appealing to religious and secular audiences alike. Jubilee singing has become increasingly rare\, so we are fortunate to have this opportunity to hear this amazing\, rhythmic\, harmonizing singing here in Amherst! \nThe Beulah Band draws on the influence of such groups as The Golden Gate Gospel Quartet\, the Soul Stirrers\, The Selah Jubilee Singers and the Kansas City Gospel Singers (among many others). They sing this throw back sound with both humor and energy in hopes that it may inspire others to approach Jubilee singing as a tradition worthy of reviving. \nThe Washed Up Beulah Band is: Arthur Davis\, Luke Hoffman\, Kenny Shimizu\, and Wheaton Squire. \nSuggested donation $12.00. Please RSVP to Casey: grow@oldfriendsfarm.com or 413-687-5676
