SUMMARY:Soil Health Field Walk: Crimson & Clover Farm
DESCRIPTION:Join Crimson Clover Farm and American Farmland Trust for a field walk exploring innovative approaches to tillage reduction on organic farms. Farmer Nathan Frigard will showcase three tillage reduction and soil health trials: zone-tilling and planting crops into established dutch white clover living mulch\, growing teff as a living mulch between tomato beds\, and the use of intensive cover crop successions for organic matter/residue building. Nathan will provide a farm tour\, stopping at each trial plot to discuss the operations involved and any initial soil health\, weed suppression\, and crop performance observations. We will round out the afternoon with an informal farmer-to-farmer Q&A and discussion. \nSpeaker: Nate Frigard co-founded Crimson & Clover Farm in 2011 with a mission to provide quality products\, build healthy soils\, and create a vibrant community farm where folks could come to not just pick up their CSA vegetables but also walk the land\, pick strawberries\, and flowers\, see their neighbors\, and learn where their food came from.  For Nate\, farming has always been about more than just growing great food but also building connections with nature and among people. \nLocation: 215 Spring St\, Florence\, MA 01062 \nClick here to learn more and register for the event!

SUMMARY:Sawyer Farm Reduced-Till Perennial Clover Trials
DESCRIPTION:Register here! \nOver the past several seasons\, farmers at Sawyer have been experimenting with different ways to plant row crops into perennial white clover and reduce tillage using a series of innovative practices. Join CISA\, UMass Extension\, Berkshire Conservation District\, Hampden-Hampshire Conservation District\, and Sawyer Farm’s Lincoln Fishman for a close look at transplanter shoe adaptations designed to reduce soil disturbance and weed competition in perennial clover and cash crop production. \nThis in-person workshop will be followed with an on-farm networking opportunity and equipment demo. Berkshire Conservation District will display their no-till drill seeder\, which is available for rentals and can be used for mixed or single species applications from clovers and orchard grass to rye and soybeans\, and the Hampden-Hampshire Conservation District will display their ESCH 5605 seed drill. The workshop is co-sponsored by CISA and UMass Extension\, and will take a close look at the system and the research underway with UMass through a SARE Partnership Grant\, and is part of CISA’s 2023 Adapt Your Farm to Climate Change Webinar and Workshop Series: On-farm Climate Change Adaptation Case Studies from western Massachusetts. \nPresenter: Sawyer Farm is in Worthington\, MA.
