SUMMARY:Statewide Local Working Group Survey and Meeting
DESCRIPTION:On September 29 at 12:00 noon\, the NRCS will host a statewide Local Working Group meeting over Zoom. Please note: even if you cannot attend the meeting\, you can make your voice heard by filling out the NRCS survey\, linked below. Answers to this survey will not only structure the LWG meeting\, but will also guide our work going forward. \nThis survey and meeting are an opportunity to provide input on natural resource priorities for the NRCS and the state conservationist. Agricultural producers\, owners/operators of nonindustrial private forest land\, professionals representing agricultural and natural resource interests\, and individuals representing a variety of disciplines in the soil\, water\, wetland\, plant\, forestry\, and wildlife sciences are all welcome. \nFor more information on local working groups\, see What are Local Working Groups. \nPlease fill out this survey at least one week prior to the meeting (July 22 deadline). This survey will help us structure the meeting so that it responds to your needs. A list of definitions of the resource concerns listed in the survey can be found here. Again\, even if you cannot attend the meeting\, please fill out this survey—answers to this survey will guide our work beyond the statewide Local Working Group meeting. \nTo receive the link to the meeting\, please RSVP by emailing Austin Miles at amilesmacd@gmail.com.

SUMMARY:Foodtopia: Communities in Pursuit of Peace\, Love\, & Homegrown Food
DESCRIPTION:THE ODYSSEY PRESENTS AN IN-PERSON EVENT\nMARGOT ANNE KELLEY: Foodtopia: Communities in Pursuit of Peace\, Love\, & Homegrown Food \nWednesday\, November 9 at 7:00pm\, Doors open at 6:30pm \nJoin us in person on Wednesday\, November 9 as Margot Kelley talks about her new book\, Foodtopia: Communities in Pursuit of Peace\, Love\, & Homegrown Food. She will be joined in conversation by Tyler Sage of Sage Farm in Bernardston\, Massachusetts. \nEver wonder if there’s a better way to live\, work\, and eat? You’re not alone. Here is the story of five backto- the-land movements\, from 1840 to present day\, when large numbers of utopian-minded people in the United States took action to establish small-scale farming as an alternative to mainstream agriculture. Then and now\, it’s the story of people striving to live freely and fight injustice\, to make the food on their table a little healthier\, and to leave the planet less scarred than they found it. \nOdyssey Bookshop\nThe Village Commons\n9 College Street\nSouth Hadley\, MA \, 01075\n413-534-7307\nwww.odysseybks.com

SUMMARY:Soil Health Field Walk: Crimson & Clover Farm
DESCRIPTION:Join Crimson Clover Farm and American Farmland Trust for a field walk exploring innovative approaches to tillage reduction on organic farms. Farmer Nathan Frigard will showcase three tillage reduction and soil health trials: zone-tilling and planting crops into established dutch white clover living mulch\, growing teff as a living mulch between tomato beds\, and the use of intensive cover crop successions for organic matter/residue building. Nathan will provide a farm tour\, stopping at each trial plot to discuss the operations involved and any initial soil health\, weed suppression\, and crop performance observations. We will round out the afternoon with an informal farmer-to-farmer Q&A and discussion. \nSpeaker: Nate Frigard co-founded Crimson & Clover Farm in 2011 with a mission to provide quality products\, build healthy soils\, and create a vibrant community farm where folks could come to not just pick up their CSA vegetables but also walk the land\, pick strawberries\, and flowers\, see their neighbors\, and learn where their food came from.  For Nate\, farming has always been about more than just growing great food but also building connections with nature and among people. \nLocation: 215 Spring St\, Florence\, MA 01062 \nClick here to learn more and register for the event!
