SUMMARY:Mushroom Log Inoculation
DESCRIPTION:We will be inoculating fresh oak logs with spores of Shiitake and other mushrooms. SUMMARY:Co-op Power's 9th Annual Sustainability Summit
DESCRIPTION:Co-op Power’s 9th Annual Sustainability Summit will be held on Saturday\, May 11th at Hampshire College in Amherst\, MA from 9:00AM-4:00PM. Our Annual Meeting will directly follow the Summit from 4-6:30 and all are welcome to attend.\n \nThe Summit is a great opportunity to share ideas with like-minded people on topics from green business development and community finance to sustainable heating options and green energy. It?s a chance to figure out what resources are available going forward.\n \nWe expect vibrant discussions about our society and our environment. \nKeynote speaker\, Halina Brown\, of Clark University and the Sustainable Consumption Action and Research Initiative\, will speak on the interconnection of consumerism\, technology\, environmental destruction\, and the need to develop new cooperative-based economies.\n \nWe want to make sure that activist groups and people passionate about the environment and social justice have a place at the summit to add their excitement and expertise! There are a few options of ways to be involved:\n \n1) Sponsor or exhibit at the Summit- Booths cost $100 for non-profits\,\n$150 for for-profit businesses. The exhibit area is in the courtyard of Franklin Patterson Hall at Hampshire College. You’ll get a 10×10 space\, one six-foot table\, and two chairs. We recommend bringing a tent in case of rain and/or sun.\n \n2) Become a community sponsor. We recognize that many activist organizations don’t have a big budget. However\, you do have human capital.  You can become a community sponsor by helping to promote the Sustainability Summit.\n \nHere’s how it works:\n \nContact elizabeth@cooppower.coop to say you’d like to become a community sponsor. Elizabeth will create a promotional code just for your organization. You distribute the code to people in your network. \nThe code gets them 10% off the registration cost when they sign up online!\n \nWe track how many people use your unique promotional code. If 20 people sign up\, you get a half table in the exhibitor area and your name listed on our website and program. If 40 people sign up\, you get a full table and the same listing. If more than 40 people sign up using your code—you?re awesome!\n \nNote: You must reach your goal of 20 or 40 sign-ups before April 26th when we need our final count of booths. The sooner you can do it\, the better!\n \nHere’s a look at what to expect at the Summit:\n \nNine tracks of three workshops around themes that illuminate different aspects of sustainability. Themes include electricity\, energy efficiency\, cooperative development\, green business development\, sustainability in the pioneer valley\, biodiesel\, and sustainable heating.\nA catered lunch\nA Facilitated Discussion with keynote speaker\, Halina Brown An exhibitor area where activist groups and green businesses can connect with attendees\n4-6:30 PM: Co-op Power’s Annual Meeting and Potluck. Members will make decisions about cooperation and autonomy among our decentralized network of local organizing councils.\n

SUMMARY:PVGrows Spring Forum: Local Food for Schools\, Hospitals\, & Other Institutions
DESCRIPTION:How can we advance farm-to-institution connections in the Pioneer Valley? \nIn a healthy food system\, nutritious locally grown foods are being served in schools\, hospitals\, prisons\, and other institutions.  Come to the PVGrows Spring Forum to learn how these partnerships are being built\, and what you can do to support their growth. \nOur first plenary speaker is Kelly Erwin\, Founder and Director of the MA Farm to School Project\, on the important role of farm-to-institution connections in building a healthy food system.  Kelly will give a primer on the many forms these partnerships can take- ranging from a farmer selling direct to an institution to other models with multiple “middlemen.”  More speakers to be announced soon! \nWe’ll be hosted by UMass Dining Services\, which sources an impressive 28% of its produce locally.  We’ll learn about their relationships with farmers\, distributors\, and students\, and then we’ll enjoy one of their locally-grown lunches. \nInteractive sessions are designed to connect you to people and organizations with farm-to-institution challenges and solutions similar to your own. \nAnd as usual\, the Forum includes structured networking\, opportunities for collaboration\, and a locally grown lunch! \nRead more about the PVGrows Forum. \n\nThis event is open to anyone working for a healthy food system in the Pioneer Valley.\nSpace is limited to 120.\nThe Forum is free.
