We’ll also look at our efforts to transition away from fossil fuels (including solar electricity generation that powers our electrically-heated greenhouse\, well pump\, climate-controlled wash/pack room\, etc). We’ll share ideas for future projects and discuss funding from the new Climate-Smart Farming & Marketing Program that is helping in these efforts. Pie and seltzer will be provided! \n\nDate: September 22\, 4-6pm\nLocation: Stony Hill Farm\, 899 Stony Hill Rd\, Wilbraham MA\n\nPlease reach out to stonyhillfarm01095@gmail.com with questions. \nThis event is part of Climate Change and Farming Week 2024. Rain or shine! \nKids ages 4-12 are welcome to participate in POP Club\, a fun\, free program that encourages kids to discover the abundance of fresh local produce at the market. Kids exercise their own buying power while exploring the market\, trying new fruits and vegetables\, learning about where their food comes from\, and participating in activities . \nHow POP Club works: \n\nSign up at the POP Tent on any Thursday between June 6th – August 22nd.\nEach time kids attend the market\, they receive $2 in POP Bucks to spend on fruits\, vegetables\, or seedlings at the market.\nKids can choose between spending their POP bucks or saving them for a larger produce item.\nKids can participate in activities like planting seeds\, learning about pollinators\, movement activities\, and more.\n\n\n\nFrequently Asked Questions\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat is POP Club?\nThe Power Of Produce (POP) Club is a nationally recognized kids program started at the Oregon City Farmers Market in May 2011. POP Club empowers kids to make healthy food choices while introducing them to where their food comes from. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDo we have to participate in the activities?\nWe understand that not all activities will appeal to everyone and there is no requirement to participate in order to receive POP Bucks. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat are the benefits of POP Club?\nPOP Club is a great opportunity for kids to try new foods and become engaged in making healthier food choices. POP Club also empowers kids to make financial decisions on their own. Each week that kids come to the market\, they can choose between spending their POP Bucks that day or saving them to use another week on a bigger item. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDo POP Bucks expire?\nPOP Bucks expire at the end of the market season and must be used by October 17th.

SUMMARY:Food Security and Youth Leadership Development through Soil Health\, Food Preservation and Culturally Relevant Crops
DESCRIPTION:What does it take to create food security in your local community? Over the last 8 years\, the Tapley Youth Agricultural Scientists (YAS!) have been building soil health\, cultivating culturally relevant crops\, and growing nutrient-dense food for their community. The Tapley garden is a model for urban agriculture centered around soil health\, healthy food\, and leadership development. \nWith the support of MDAR\, the stewards of this garden have been able to conduct soil health assessments with microbiometers and microscopes. They’ve learned how to confront the challenges of building healthy soil in urban spaces. They’ve developed an intensive and productive food source. They’ve found ways to plant\, adapt and cultivate crops valued by their communities. They’ve even started exploring how to produce value-added products! \nIn this webinar\, the youth will walk you through the critical soil health techniques – mulching\, soil ferments\, cover cropping – that build soil health. They’ll discuss how they test soil using a variety of methods. They’ll share lessons on planning an intensive garden to maximize yields and optimize space. \nIf you’ve wanted to start planning for a community garden in your community\, this is a must-watch webinar! \nClick here for more information! \nContact Sister Anna Gilbert-Muhammad (anna@nofamass.org) with questions.
