For a donation to Franklin County 4-H\, we’ll take your pumpkins high above Hager’s in an aerial lift (provided by West County Equipment)\, and drop them! The pumpkin that sends a piece of rind the farthest will win a cash prize and the coveted pumpkin smash trophy! \nThere will also be a huge raffle\, with over 50 items to win. And all proceeds benefit 4-H programs. DESCRIPTION:Learn how to slaughter\, dress\, quarter and further butcher hoofed animals! In this workshop\, we’ll take apart three heritage breed pigs at Doghill farm in Huntington MA. Learn about butchering\, charcuterie and anatomy as we transform these noble cousins of ours into food for us humans. All parts of the animal will be used\, including organ meats\, bones and blood. Lastly\, we will learn to use the sinew for string\, hooves for glue. Folks will be expected to roll their sleeves and participate. All this will be done\, of course\, in the respectful context of interdependence. The 2017 Massachusetts Food System Forum is an opportunity to learn about what has been accomplished since then toward the goals of the Plan\, and to have discussions to develop plans and strategies for future collaborative work. \nRegistration is only $15 and includes lunch. DESCRIPTION:Mark your calendars for the 6th annual Hilltown Seed Exchange on Saturday\, November 18th from 1-4pm at the Cummington Community House! (33 Main Street\, Cummington)  Learn to save your own garden seed\, get answers to your seed saving questions\, and exchange seed that you’ve saved with your friends and neighbors! \nThis year’s event will feature an opening talk by Amy Pulley of Wing and A Prayer Pollinator Nursery in Cummington. Amy is actively working to restore pollinator habitats throughout the area and educate gardeners\, children and families about how to support pollinators by planting more pollinator plants (and saving their seeds!). \nAmy’s talk will begin at 1pm at the Cummington Community House and the seed exchange will follow at 1:30pm.  There will be plenty of time to browse and help yourself to the dozens of home grown varieties of tomatoes\, beans\, kale\, wildflowers\, and many other crops. DESCRIPTION:The day-long conference features a wide variety of workshops on many aspects of regenerative organic growing\, food systems policy\, and land management appropriate for growers and organizers of all scales. \nThis year’s theme is Cover\, Diversity\, Regenerate. Degraded soils can be restored by promoting the biological function of the soil ecosystem\, which can be accomplished through living plant cover\, mulches\, and smart farm systems which reduce soil disturbance and enhance ecological diversity.
