SUMMARY:Production and Marketing of Winter Vegetables
DESCRIPTION:The demand for winter vegetables has grown dramatically in the past five years\, and farmers’ skills in growing and storing produce for winter sales has expanded with it. Everyone who builds a winter component into their farming enterprise has to adapt how they grow\, wash\, package\, store\, and move vegetables around to deal with conditions of the frozen and dark side of the calendar. Plus\, they need to develop new marketing venues. In this program\, experienced farmers and marketers will offer their insights\, followed by plenty of time in each session for farmer to farmer discussion. Sign up for a FREE one-on-one “Ask the Expert” session with marketing advisor Myrna Greenfield. SUMMARY:Just Roots presents: "Plan. Build. Grow." Workshop
DESCRIPTION:This comprehensive garden planning\, greenhouse construction and growing practices workshop will be held on two consecutive Sundays\, March 23rd and March 30th\, from 10am-4pm. \n \nFor more information and to register visit: http://justroots.org/events/plan-build-grow/ \n \nIn this workshop you will learn how to create a garden plan including short and long-term fertility management\, crop planning\, and growing practices to increase plant resilience. Learn about low-cost\, home-made greenhouses\, high tunnels and low tunnels from construction to management. We will build both low tunnels and a 12′ x 20′ greenhouse (from scratch) during this two-day workshop. Various seed starting setups will be demonstrated for indoor or greenhouse growing. We will discuss cultural requirements of different crop families including germination temperatures\, timing\, fertility\, and caring for your seedlings from seed to transplant. It is recommended that participants bring a recent soil test. Participants have the option of working with our seeds or bringing your own if you would like to plant something to take home. Participation in both classes is highly recommended.
