DESCRIPTION:Come celebrate the kick-off of Free School 4 Farm Workers by joining us for this two-part online workshop where we take a deep dive into farm employment contracts and negotiation skills. We’ll consider common techniques you can use when negotiating – whether as part of a formal contract or for other benefits like a pay raise or a new title. DESCRIPTION:Register here! \nBerkshire Grown will host a virtual two-part grant writing training\, led by Kara Weinstein\, for farmers and food producers looking to develop an understanding of how to read and interpret grant applications\, and the basic story-telling and writing skills to submit successful grant applications. The first session on February 21\, 2024 will cover researching prospects\, understanding the Request for Proposals (RFP) process\, how to write a compelling needs statement\, effective outcomes and evaluations\, and developing project budgets. At the end of the first session participants will be assigned homework to draft a response to a sample proposal question. \nIn the second session on March 6\, 2024\, participants will share their responses\, and receive feedback on how to improve them\, coming away with an outline for a boiler plate of usable text for grant applications. \nKara is a food systems consultant based in Kingston\, NY. As founder of KHW Strategies\, she works with food systems and sustainable agriculture operators and nonprofits on strategic vision\, operations\, grant writing and execution\, and project management. She has a background in corporate sustainability + ESG consulting and communications. The APR program provides funding directly to farmers to preserve access to farmlands for generations to come. DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, March 13th 5:30-7pm\, online.  \nJohn Waite from the Franklin County Community Development Corporation will give us an overview of the funding landscape for farms and food businesses. We will talk about the roles of different funding sources in your business planning\, and introduce local lenders who are excited to work with early stage farms and food businesses. CISA staff will also give an introduction to grants for farmers (and we’ll talk about one of the few grant opportunities for non-farm businesses too). \nThis workshop is part of the Essential Skills for Starting\, Growing & Managing a Food Business winter series. DESCRIPTION:This course will guide aspiring food business owners through the details of business planning and launch\, food permitting and licensing\, branding and marketing\, and legal topics specific to food businesses. Participants will explore their concept in depth and map out next steps for their business. \nCourse runs on Wednesday evenings 5:30pm-7pm from March 13th – May 22nd\n\n\nCurriculum includes: Business Planning; Food Production Planning; Entity Formation; Food Liability Insurance; Branding and Canva Practice; Food Business Financials; Permitting\, Certifications\, and Labeling; Contracts\, Invoices and Payment Terms; and panel discussions with shared kitchens around MA and RI and successful food entrepreneurs.\n\n\nApply here by Monday\, February 19th
