SUMMARY:Registration Deadline: Farm Succession School
DESCRIPTION:Farm Succession School returns to New England. \nAmong farmers’ biggest challenges is planning for farm succession. The Farm Succession School provides farmers and farming couples looking toward retirement and farm transition with the structured and sustained support to make decisions\, engage their families\, and organize the legal and financial mechanics. \nTopics include goal setting\, estate planning\, retirement planning\, family communications\, taxes\, legal structures\, bringing on a successor\, and much more. \nA commitment of just three days over the winter months will allow farmers to develop a concrete plan for their farm business\, their land\, and their retirement. The program includes presentations\, group discussions and individual exercises\, with “homework” between sessions. \nFarmers who have participated loved the amount of attention they received and valued the trust and sharing that developed among the participants\, regardless of scale or type of enterprise. ‘It is a big relief to me! Thanks for the push to get it done! The course was well worthwhile\,” shared one farmer. “A must do! Definitely would recommend it. Well worth the time!” commented another. Read more of what farmers had to say. \nTwo Locations! Open to farmers in all New England states. Farm Succession School is a three-session program; from 10:00am – 3:30pm. \nWarwick\, Rhode Island:\nDecember 11\, 2018; January 9\, 2019; and February 8\, 2019 \nBedford\, New Hampshire:\nDecember 12\, 2018; January 10\, 2019; and February 7\, 2019 \nThe fee is $300 per farmer or farm couple. This includes lunch\, refreshments and materials. Participants will get $200 back toward additional succession-related advising. \nInstructors include: \nJon Jaffe\nFarm Business Consultant\nFarm Credit East\njon.jaffe@farmcrediteast.com \nKathy Ruhf\nSenior Advisor\nLand For Good\nkathy@landforgood.org \nAn attorney with expertise in succession planning in each state. \nFor more information or to register\, go to landforgood.org/events. SUMMARY:Grazing for Change
DESCRIPTION:Wildlife biologist Allan Savory\, originator of Holistic Management and Holistic Planned Grazing (aka Adaptive Multi-paddock Grazing)\, will be in Keene\, New Hampshire on Friday\, September 21st\, to celebrate Stonewall Farm becoming a member of the Savory Institute’s Global Hub Network. \nAs you may know\, Savory’s revolutionary insights enable humanity to swiftly restore ecological health and fertility to degraded pastures and grasslands\, even – for the first time in history – in the driest and least hospitable regions on the planet. Crucially\, healing the Earth in this way offers the potential to capture in soil billions of tons of atmospheric carbon annually. \nSavory will be leading a Pasture Walk at Stonewall Farm in the morning of the 21st\, and giving a keynote address that evening at Keene High School. In the afternoon\, a panel session will feature representatives from Stonyfield Farm\, the yoghurt manufacturer (Stonewall is a supplier to Stonyfield)\, and Badger Organic Skin Care products. My colleague\, Soil4Climate cofounder Seth Itzkan\, and I will also be speaking. \nAdmission is limited to 50 people for the events happening during the day\, so REGISTER NOW to secure a spot. The auditorium at Keene High School can accommodate 800+ people so everyone who wishes to should be able to attend the evening talk by Savory (who turns 83 this month). Details and tickets here.
