Join Michael Crigler of Bueno Social for this free two-part workshop as he walks us through the graphic design thinking\, pro tips\, and guiding principles behind what makes an excellent website and how you can apply them to your own. Attendees will come away with a better understanding on what makes an effective website in relation to design\, function\, and goals. Michael will share how you can shape your website to better reflect the goals of your business\, and cover what the most up-to-date standards are for web browsers and potential online visitors and customers. This workshop will also help you to craft a plan and have a clearer understanding when speaking to a consultant to improve your website. \nIn the first session\, Michael will cover the guiding principles behind what makes a great website today and how a site’s design can capture your audience and convert them to customers. Click here for information about the in-person event.  \nOverview \nHow do we feed and care for ourselves while we feed others?  What types of practices and connections support us to be our best selves in the challenging work of managing a farm business?  The Be Well Farming Project invites you to join us this December for a farmer-centered retreat experience where we’ll consider how we cultivate wellbeing for ourselves and for those we work alongside on the farm. \nOur goal is to create a welcoming space for participants to explore new ways to improve personal and farm health and overall wellbeing.  Being in community with other producers can foster deeper social connections among farmer participants and invite our collective wisdom in the room to offer practical strategies to advance wellbeing.  Participants will use the space together to enliven their personal and professional commitment to wellbeing\, equity\, and social connection. \nProgramming \nRetreat Programming will consist of a series of full-group and small-group conversations\, space for personal reflection\, communal meals\, and physical activities like nature walks\, yoga and meditation. The retreat will be facilitated by the Be Well Farming team and is intended for commercial farmers and farm employees who have at least three years of experience managing or working on a crew on all types of operations in the Northeast. A limited number of spaces for agricultural service providers are available. \nOur online session will invite you into a warm and welcoming virtual retreat home. We will connect meaningfully through a mix of modalities: individual reflection\, small and large group sharing\, dialogue walks\, arts and yoga. Participants will receive a mailing with all handouts and materials needed.  Plenty of opportunities to rest your eyes and body from the screen will be offered both in session and between. \nLogistics \nPlease reserve Dec 1 and Dec 2 from 9 am – 4 pm and Dec 3 from 9am – Noon (final schedule still in development).   Participants will be asked to commit to being fully present throughout the online experience preferably on a tablet or desktop/laptop computer with a camera and reliable internet connection. Online Sessions will not be recorded.  Scholarships will be available to support full participation\, based upon request by the applicant. \nA participation fee of $50 is requested for both the online and in-person retreats. The remainder of registration (a value of $500/person for in-person) is supported by a grant from Northeast Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education.  Need-based scholarships (as funding allows) will be available to participants of both retreats to support full participation. Possible expenses for scholarship applications could include child care\, work release\, or supplementary staffing. Indicate this need on the application form. \nWho is the retreat for?  \nWe encourage applications from: \n\nCommercial producers and farm employees who have at least three years of management experience on all types of operations in the Northeast.\nProducers representing diverse backgrounds\, identities\, and farm enterprises.\nProducers who identify as community leaders and are committed to continuous learning\, change-making\, and self-reflection in order to improve health and well-being for themselves and their broader farm team.\nThose who want to learn more about specific strategies to improve health\, well-being\, and fairness and equity on the farm.\nThose who are committed to carrying the work forward and applying what they have learned to take future action (either personally\, within the farm business\, and/or in the broader agricultural community).\n\nHow to apply  \nPlease complete the application form. Topics covered will include marketing strategies and pricing tips for local wool and fiber producers and artisans. The application deadline is October 31. *** \nSubscriptions for Online Courses\n\n\n\n\nApply\n\n\n\n\nFACT will provide a limited number of a one-year subscriptions to FFI’s Edible-Alpha digital resource hub ($300 value) which offers both live and on-demand courses and educational content. Content includes courses such as Sources & Uses of Capital Finance Planning Workshop; Getting Your Food Products Online; 13-Week Rolling Cash Flow: Forecasting & Debt; and Building a Valuable Food Brand Course. \nBoot camp intensive\n\n\n\n\nApply\n\n\n\n\n20 farms will be selected to participate in a 4-day intensive Boot Camp ($500 value) led by FFI experts and hosted by FACT. Potential participants are asked to consider the following commitments: \nParticipants are asked to be available to attend and engaged in all three days of the in-person retreat and during each of the sessions of the online program.  Attendees should come prepared to be fully present to take full advantage of this opportunity. \nIn-person participants are expected to follow the required health and safety protocols throughout the retreat \nCOVID-19/Delta Safety Considerations:  All in-person participants will be required to upload proof of completion of a COVID vaccination.  Masks will be required indoors at the retreat facility in accordance to MA health requirements.  Accommodations will include single rooms with access to shared bathroom facilities.  In the event that the in-person retreat is not possible\, both sessions will be offered online. \nA participation fee of $50 is requested for both the online and in-person retreats. The remainder of registration (a value of $500/person for in-person) is supported by a grant from Northeast Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education.  Need-based scholarships (as funding allows) will be available to participants of both retreats to support full participation. Possible expenses for scholarship applications could include child care\, work release\, or supplementary staffing. Enrollment is open to farmers who have been operating a farm business in Massachusetts for at least the two prior years. DESCRIPTION:Join farmer and Carrot Project business advisor and lead trainer Cian Dalzell for one of two\, four-session online training series. This training is designed to provide you skills and support for both short and long term improvement in business operations and financial security. \nSessions can be mixed and matched to fit your schedule. \nWednesday Jan 12\, 2022 or Monday Jan  31\, 2022 \nUnderstanding and evaluating what’s going on in your business starts with having good records – and you want to make sure you’re getting the best information about your business. \nIf your records don’t give you the answers you need\, or you need to be more efficient in your bookkeeping effort\, this session is what you need. \nWe’ll cover the keys to success in maintaining current and accurate financial information\, and understanding how to use it. \nYou will come out of this session understanding: \n\nWhen cash or accrual bookkeeping works best\, and how it affects your data and reports.\nUsing your chart of accounts to both file your taxes and make important management decisions.\nHow to  understand and use your balance sheet to evaluate your business operations in addition to  your income statement (Profit & Loss). \n\nWho It’s For: \nThese trainings are designed for farmers and food business owners with moderate or greater experience in operations and who have an established financial recordkeeping system in place. Priority will be given to businesses in RI\, MA\, and CT. \nFishermen\, aquaculturists\, and small processors using local farm and sea ingredients are welcome and encouraged to attend. \nDetails: \nSeries 1: Mondays – Jan 31\, Feb 7\, 14\, and 28: 10 AM to 12:30 PM \nSeries 2: Wednesdays – Jan 12\, 19\, 26\, and Feb 9: 3:30 PM to 6:00 PM
