SUMMARY:Workshop: Athletes in Overalls: Movement Health & Injury Prevention
DESCRIPTION:Not Our Farm \n\n\n\nAnyone who has farmed for a day\, a week\, a month\, or a full season knows that farming is a MARATHON (maybe a series of marathons!)\, and not a sprint. When we look at farm work through the lens of sport and athleticism\, what changes for us? How does that impact our diet\, our noticing in our bodies\, our sleep hygiene\, and our confidence in how we advocate for ourselves? \nAt the next Free School session\, longtime farmer and farmworker\, strength athlete\, and personal trainer Cynthia Flores of Labor-Movement will discuss movement health and wellness for farmworkers from an athletic perspective. Cynthia asks: What does it mean to be a farmworker and an athlete? What is movement self-advocacy? \nYou can expect to learn tips on managing food\, fluid\, sleep\, and stress for best performance over long days and the season. The discussion will focus on safe lifts using hinges and squats\, reducing the potential of low back pain or injury\, and moving and carrying loads. \nThere will be time for Q&A and discussion so bring your questions and experiences! \nJoin us Tuesday\, January 28\, at 3:30 pm PT/6:30 pm ET on zoom.\nREGISTER HERE \nAccessibility information: This session will be facilitated in English and simultaneously interpreted into Spanish by Cooperativa Brujúlas. Closed captioning will also be available. \nPlease note that Free School for Farmworkers sessions are a farmworker-only space.\n*We define a farmworker as someone working on a farm they do not own\, for or without pay\, including interns\, apprentices\, cooperative workers\, and aspiring farmworkers. If you have questions about whether you are eligible to participate\, please contact Anita Adalja at anita@notourfarm.org \nFlyer designed by Alicia Robinson-Welsh

SUMMARY:Building Better Work Teams
DESCRIPTION:Build Your Management & Communication Toolbox \nDates: January 16\, 23 & 30\nTime: 10 am to 11:15 each day via Zoom \nRegistration \nThis 3-part workshop begins with the DiSC© Workplace assessment* where participants learn about their preferred work styles and environment. We discuss why this self-awareness is critical to being an effective leader/manager and explore some strategies for anticipating what future employees might be looking for in a manager. \nSession 2 dives into organizational culture as it shows up on your farm and why being transparent about the culture you are striving for matters in building a farm team. We will spend time assessing your current culture and exploring strategies to either amplify or change it. We’ll share tips on how you can anticipate someone’s work style and preferences based on some very common observations. \nSession 3 will be an interactive look at how\, why and when conflict arises in work environments. We explore strategies to address the role of the manager when there is conflict within the work team\, how different DiSC© profiles approach conflict\, how to model productive conflict\, and how to move beyond conflict and emerge as a stronger team. \nThese are interactive sessions\, and your participation will be critical to our collective learning. Resources will be provided in advance and participants should plan time to review the materials prior to each session.  Participants will leave the series with an action plan designed to get your growing season off to a successful start. \nFees: There is a $65 participant fee for this workshop to help pay for the DiSC Workplace Profile. Financial assistance and discounts for multiple people from the same farm business are available. If you are requesting financial assistance\, please wait to hear back from us before registering for the workshop as it is not possible for us to process refunds \nRequest Financial Assistance
