SUMMARY:Film Screening: JUST EAT IT: A FOOD WASTE STORY
DESCRIPTION:After catching a glimpse of the billions of dollars of good food that is tossed each year in North America\, filmmakers Jen Rustemeyer and Grant Baldwin pledge to quit grocery shopping cold turkey and survive only on discarded food in their film\, JUST EAT IT.\n \nJUST EAT IT brings farmers\, retailers\, organizations\, and consumers to the table to examine why nearly 50% of our food ends up in the trash. Equal parts education and delicious entertainment\, the film looks at our obsession with expiration dates\, perfect produce\, and portion sizes and reveals the global consequences of food waste.\n \nCongressman Jim McGovern\, Food Bank of Western Massachusetts Executive Director Andrew Morehouse\, and Gideon Porth of Atlas Farm will discuss food waste and food rescue.\n\n“Food waste has a profound impact on food insecurity and hunger\,” Morehouse said\, “and the film reveals how prevalent food waste is in our country. The Food Bank and its partners are keenly aware of the issue and have several programs to rescue food that would otherwise be lost.” \nJUST EAT IT: A FOOD WASTE STORY screens one time only at Amherst Cinema on Tuesday\, May 3 at 7pm.\n \nTickets at the Amherst Cinema box office and online: www.amherstcinema.org\n \nMore information and trailers: JUST EAT IT\nDirector: Grant Baldwin. 75 minutes. While thinking about planning a sustainable food or ag business\, we want to help you make the connection between giving back to yourself\, your neighbors and your community as a key part of your business model. If you are not going well\, how can your business do well?\nRe-think Doing Business as Community & Relationship Building: We are not just talking partnership but good business and doing well requires a community. This is the very essence of Slow Living because there is no business without community.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAs always\, the Summit takes the Slow approach to entrepreneurship. “Slow Living” embodies cooperation\, celebration\, respect\, purpose\, sustainability\, gratitude\, mindfulness\, and resilience. \nWho should come: farmers\, entrepreneurs\, students\, funders\, educators\, consultants\, concerned citizens. \nWhat it’s about: The sixth annual Summit focuses on entrepreneurship. SUMMARY:Earth Day Potluck and Seed Swap
DESCRIPTION:In celebration of Earth Day\, come join us for an evening of sharing food and swapping seeds and plants! If you don’t have anything to swap\, that’s fine too. Come for the potluck and company! \n\nWe will also have a sign up sheet for anyone interested in sharing a skill at future skill share meet ups.\n\n\n \n\n\nWHAT TO BRING:\n\n Please bring a simple dish\, drink\, or snack to share potluck style. Eating utensils and plates will be provided.\nBring one more more items to swap. (If you plan to swap)\n\nSome item ideas: seeds (store bought or harvested)\, cuttings\, seedlings/starts\, seed potatoes\, succulents\, house plants\, etc. Other garden items are welcome too \nHOW IT WORKS: \n\nFor this swap you can trade an item your brought for another item that someone else brought: items are swapped 1-for-1.\nEach swapper sets what 1 item is: 1 pack of seeds\, 5 seed potatoes\, 1 bundle of cuttings\, 3 seedlings\, etc.\nNo haggling please. We want this to be a fair and friendly swap for all! Please avoid thinking of swapped items in terms of monitory value. Instead the items swapped should be something you and your swapping partner value for what it is rather than how much it’s worth in dollars.\nEveryone gets a name tag so we can meet each other and also know who made what. \nLabels will be provided for you to label your item with:\n1. The name of the item(s) you are swapping.\n2. The name of the person who made the item (you).\n3. Notes regarding the item (planting instructions\, etc).\n\nEach item label will also have a section for “bids”.\nWhen the swap begins\, everyone will place their item bids. You may place 3 bids per item you’ve brought to swap.\n When the bids are all in\, it’s time to swap! Chat with each other. Ask if the maker of the item you’ve bid on is interested in swapping for the item you’ve brought. Be polite and have fun!\n This will probably end up going freestyle\, but these rules are a good guide to start\, making sure everyone has a good time\, meets some new folks\, and maybe learns something new.\n\nPLEASE NOTE: The ‘bid cards’ are only a starting place\, you do not have to swap with people on your cards or ones you’ve signed up for- Please make sure each swap it done FACE TO FACE with the other person agreeing to the swap!\n\n Most important of all: Have fun!!\n\nYou can RSVP here: https://www.facebook.com/events/1673622526245181/
