DESCRIPTION:Make sure your farm stand and farmers’ market staff are ready to accept SNAP this summer by having them attend this SNAP employee training. \nEmployees will learn SNAP basics including what EBT cards look like\, what items are SNAP eligible\, how to run a SNAP transaction\, and the differences between SNAP and HIP. Attendees will come away knowing how SNAP works\, how to answer questions around SNAP and HIP\, and how to successfully and legally run a transaction on Conduent and TotilPay machines. \nThis training will also cover the SNAP protocols and rules that the USDA requires businesses to cover with their employees every year. \nThis training is for employees who will be processing SNAP transactions. DESCRIPTION:Dr. Allen Williams and his colleagues at Understanding Ag. have been leaders in working with farmers and ranchers across the U.S. and around the world to increase their understanding of soil health practices and how they can make any farming operation more successful. \nIf you have pastures that you think are not preforming at their peak and would like to hear Dr. Allen Williams’ take on pasture issues and solutions\, as well as how other farmers in the area are managing their fields – this is the event for you! Bring your shovel and your opinions. Be prepared to share your experiences and be open to hearing from others. \nThis workshop will focus on practical and applied pasture science. It will be relevant no matter what livestock you are raising on pasture. \nThere is no parking at the pasture – we will be shuttling people from the East Thetford Park and Ride (2 minute ride). Shuttles will start running at 11:45 a.m. Weather permitting – we will be outdoors much of the 3 hours\, please dress appropriately. There is no bathroom on site either – so plan accordingly. Farmer Nathan Frigard will showcase three tillage reduction and soil health trials: zone-tilling and planting crops into established dutch white clover living mulch\, growing teff as a living mulch between tomato beds\, and the use of intensive cover crop successions for organic matter/residue building. Nathan will provide a farm tour\, stopping at each trial plot to discuss the operations involved and any initial soil health\, weed suppression\, and crop performance observations. DESCRIPTION:Dates: Tuesdays\, August 8 & 15 \nTime:   Noon-1 pm Eastern \nLearn more and register. \nIdentify your communication and management preferences and practical ways to use them to build and retain a successful and productive crew. In this two-part workshop\, we will use the DiSC Workplace Profile to help you identify your unique communication and management preferences and explore ways that your preferences affect your strengths and stressors related to managing labor. The DiSC model provides a common language people can use to better understand themselves and those they interact with. We can use this knowledge to reduce conflict and improve working relationships. \nPrior to the first session\, participants will complete the online DiSC Workplace profile and receive their personalized report. In the first session (August 8)\, we will review our profiles and explore what they can tell us about the opportunities and challenges each of us brings to workplace interactions. In the second session (August 15). we will discuss strategies farm operators and managers can use to better communicate with\, manage and supervise employees who may or may not share our work style preferences. Both sessions will include discussion of practical ways you can use to build and sustain a successful crew. \nFee: $35. There is a $35 participant fee for this workshop to help pay for the DiSC Workplace Profile.
