Or are you new to forest management? Wherever you are in your forestland journey\, you will want to read this! \nThe U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and the MA Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) are co-sponsoring an online informational meeting on Monday February 5\, 2024 at 6pm for the forest land community on funding opportunities through the Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP) and DCR’s Stewardship Program. \nCSP helps agricultural producers\, including non-industrial private forest landowners take the conservation activities on their operations to the next level though a five-year contract. It provides a payment (minimum $4000/year) for maintaining the current conservation efforts on the land and for implementing new conservation activities. At least one new activity is required to participate in the program. \nJoin us at the meeting to hear from a MA forest landowner about his experience in receiving a recent CSP contract. NRCS will explain the eligibility requirements\, payment structure and available conservation activities. This is a timely meeting as MA has received additional funding for CSP\, and other programs\, through the Inflation Reduction Act – the largest climate and conservation investment in history. How do we build a resilient community while growing food for the future? \nWe are living in rapidly changing times. This year was filled with fires and floods\, the year before was a drought. Societal forces seek to separate and divide us. And yet\, the earth offers itself as a source of nourishment through it all. How can we learn to work with the earth in the face of all this change? How can we grow food in ways that help build resilient communities? \nThis course\, called “No-till Gardening for a Resilient Future” meets once a month for 9 months from February 2024-October 2024 and guides you through the growing season\, with lessons geared towards the upcoming month’s gardening tasks. Readings and other educational opportunities will be provided in-between classes. \nEach of the class topics will be explored through the lens of climate and social resilience. DESCRIPTION:Deeper than the soil we grow\, farmers have the opportunity to nourish our communities beyond calories with the stories we tell. Beyond traditional ‘marketing\,’ together we’ll explore simple tools and strategies to bring energy\, authenticity and ease to the stories we share and change we’re hungry to make. \nPresenter\, Petra Page-Mann of Fruition Seeds: Growing up in her father’s garden in the Finger Lakes of New York\, Petra believes each seed and each of us is in the world to change the world. Her passion\, curiosity\, love of food and love of people led her all over the world studying seed\, song and culture worth celebrating. In 2012\, she co-founded Fruition Seeds with her partner Matthew to share the seeds\, knowledge and inspiration gardeners crave to amplify our individual as well as collective abundance in our short seasons.  If she’s not farming she is singing\, skiing\, snuggling her dogs\, hunting mushrooms or learning something new. \nWhen and where: Wednesday\, February 21st from 10–11:30 AM on Zoom. \nRegister here to receive the Zoom link!
