SUMMARY:How Worker-Owned Coops Enhance the Solidarity Economy: Lessons Learned from Wellspring Cooperative
DESCRIPTION:Come and learn about the solidarity economy\, which seeks to build an economy that serves people and planet. It’s a framework\, a global movement\, and a broad set of practices that align with its values of solidarity\, democracy\, equity\, sustainability and pluralism (not a one size fits all model). \nA huge foundation of solidarity economy practices already exist all around us (e.g. worker/consumer/producer/housing cooperatives; credit unions; community loan funds; public banks; community land trusts; community supported agriculture; participatory budgeting; the commons; community gardens; skill shares; swap meets; edible urban landscaping; unpaid care work…) but are marginalized because they are isolated from each other. The solidarity economy seeks to pull these practices together in order to build a just and sustainable economy and world. \nThis interactive workshop will explore the solidarity economy and use Wellspring Cooperative as a case study in building towards system change. \nThe workshop will be led by Emily Kawano\, Co-Director of the  Wellspring Cooperative and Coordinator of the United States Solidarity Economy Network< \n$15 for SBN Members and $25 for nonmembers. Interested in becoming a member\, learn more. Light refreshments will be provided. \nFor more information and to register for the event click here

SUMMARY:Winter Fare at the Greenfield Farmers' Market
DESCRIPTION:The First Annual Greenfield Winter Fare was held in 2008\, sparked by Juanita Nelson’s desire to get more people in Franklin County to eat local food year-round. Farmers’ Markets had been popular in the summer months\, but during the winter\, most people went back to buying trucked in vegetables from the grocery store. The Greenfield Winter Fare taught our community that local food could be made available all year round and it was amazing! I remember that first Winter Fare and it was such an exciting event that there was barely room to move. That special event grew into the Greenfield Winter Farmers’ Market which we now hold from Nov-March each winter. \nOn Feb 2\, we will celebrate the 12th annual Greenfield Winter Fare. At the Winter Fare\, you will find a full farmers’ market with a variety of local raised farm products\, baked goods\, preserves\, and more. Farm products include fresh and storage vegetables\, chicken\, beef\, pork\, lamb\, goat\, fresh mushrooms\, maple products\, fruit\, fiber products and more. \nWe will also have workshops on Season Extension/Winter Growing\, Aromatherapy De-Mystified\, and Eating Healthy Meals while Saving Money. More details here. \nVendors include:\nBalky Farm\nBarberic Farm\nBeaumont’s Berries\nBostrom Farm\nClarkdale Fruit Farms\nCoyote Hill Farm\nDr Cookie\nEden Pond Farm\nM & G Kettle Korn\nRainbow Harvest Farm\nMycoTerra\nRag Hill Farm\nRed Fire Farm\nSunrise Farms\nSweet Morning Farm\nWhite Buffalo Herbs\nHearthstone Artisan Bakery\nLocal Maple Granola\nComida Latina\nLost Thyme Designs\nBobbie’s Bee Balm
