DESCRIPTION:Fruit and vegetable growers and others interested in learning about produce safety and the FSMA Produce Safety Rule are invited to attend this course. This course is one way to satisfy the Produce Safety Rule requirement outlined in §112.22(c) that requires ‘At least one supervisor or responsible party for your farm must have successfully completed food safety training at least equivalent to that received under standardized curriculum recognized as adequate by the Food and Drug Administration.’ \nInstructors Lisa McKeag of UMass Extension and Michael Botelho of the MDAR Commonwealth Quality Program will discuss produce safety best practices\, key parts of the Produce Safety Rule requirements\, and how these requirements will be enforced in MA through MDAR’s Commonwealth Quality Program (CQP). Participants will learn and apply financial management tools to their business that will help them answer questions such as: “Can I pay my bills?”\, “Is a capital investment worth it?”\, “Is this the right price?”\, or “Should I add a new product line?”. Two supplementary webinars before and after the workshops. The first will be offered prior to January 5th on Understanding and Using Financial statements. To be a vendor – CLICK HERE! \nGREAT WORKSHOP PRESENTERS WANTED for “ORGANICONN” – our 36th Annual CT NOFA Winter Conference on March 10\, 2018 at Western Connecticut State University\, Danbury\, CT. * The snow date is Sunday\, March 11\, 2018 in the event of inclement weather and the university closes. \nDo you have …. an important lesson to share with local Farmers\, Organic Food Fans\, Homeowners\, Gardeners\, or Young People? If so\, apply to be a Presenter at the Winter Conference! \nWHAT YOU GET: Besides a great experience and a chance to teach others\, presenters also get: \n\nfree admission for all the other workshops & the Keynote presentation\na great lunch!\n$50 (or a year membership with CT NOFA).\nOr you can donate your presenter fee to our scholarship fund for those who want to come but have limited funds.\n\nThis is a special gathering of organic farmers\, gardeners\, landscapers\, organic food fans\, community leaders\, and families who are interested in learning more about organic ways and living! PeoplesBank started financing sustainable energy several years ago by helping Holyoke Gas & Electric replace its hydroelectric generators\, a sustainable energy source that actually provides electric power for three of their offices. PeoplesBank opened its third LEED® Gold-certified office in Northampton this 2013. DESCRIPTION:Join presenter Mary O’Neal\, Partner at Conn Kavanaugh and employment law expert\, for a workshop that will provide an overview of key employment issues that farmers need to know. From apprenticeships to agricultural minimum wage\, the workshop will cover key topics that come up on the farm and provide attendees with an agricultural employment law handbook. It will also include case studies that provide an opportunity to apply the topics to real situations.

DESCRIPTION:We are a group of people taking action to care for public places in downtown Turners Falls…\nand to plant fruit trees and berry bushes around town. \nOver the Winter\, we will be hosting a discussion group on Social Ecology and Local Action. \nPlease spread the word about our next meeting\, and come if you’re called. \nWe’ve had 2 events so far: \nCider Pressing – Oct 14 \nUnity Park Community Garden Fall Clean Up – Nov 18 \nThey were both a blast\, with friends and a bunch of new faces! \nWe’re starting to make connections with the Great Falls Discovery Center\, Montague Parks & Rec\, the Skate Park\, RiverCulture\, Shade Tree Commission\, and the Board of Selectmen.  We’re excited to be co-creating fun community events and growing local resiliency. \n(I will be away at a meditation until Dec 10\, so please contact greatfallsapplecorps@gmail.com for location and details.)
