SUMMARY:Beginning Farmer Focus Group
DESCRIPTION:Farm Focus Group – Your Thoughts and Ideas Needed to Continue Providing Assistance for Farmers \nCalling all beginning farm owners and managers! If you have taken ownership of a farm or stepped into a principal farm manager role between 2006 – 2018 OR if you are an aspiring farm operator\, please join us at one of these events! \nEnsuring the sustainability of beginning farmers is crucial in continuing the Pioneer Valley as a vibrant agricultural area. We want to continue providing that for the next 25 years – and evolve with your needs and your ideas! \nThrough the support of USDA NIFA Beginning Farmer and Rancher Development Program\, we are holding focus groups in two locations to inform how CISA farmer support programming will look in the coming years. We need to hear about your experiences\, successes\, unmet needs\, and requests to continually evolve as farm business assistance providers. \nTell us how WE can work for YOU! \nDiscussion Topics: \n\nFor participants in CISA events\, what has worked well and what can we improve\nBuilding farmer networks\nGaps in service and information for farmers\nSupport for limited resource\, women\, queer\, trans\, POC and veteran farmers\n\nPlease RSVP below by November 11 or email stevie@buylocalfood.org. SUMMARY:Registration Deadline: Farm Succession School
DESCRIPTION:Farm Succession School returns to New England. \nAmong farmers’ biggest challenges is planning for farm succession. The Farm Succession School provides farmers and farming couples looking toward retirement and farm transition with the structured and sustained support to make decisions\, engage their families\, and organize the legal and financial mechanics. \nTopics include goal setting\, estate planning\, retirement planning\, family communications\, taxes\, legal structures\, bringing on a successor\, and much more. \nA commitment of just three days over the winter months will allow farmers to develop a concrete plan for their farm business\, their land\, and their retirement. The program includes presentations\, group discussions and individual exercises\, with “homework” between sessions. \nFarmers who have participated loved the amount of attention they received and valued the trust and sharing that developed among the participants\, regardless of scale or type of enterprise. ‘It is a big relief to me! Thanks for the push to get it done! The course was well worthwhile\,” shared one farmer. “A must do! Definitely would recommend it. Well worth the time!” commented another. Read more of what farmers had to say. \nTwo Locations! Open to farmers in all New England states. Farm Succession School is a three-session program; from 10:00am – 3:30pm. \nWarwick\, Rhode Island:\nDecember 11\, 2018; January 9\, 2019; and February 8\, 2019 \nBedford\, New Hampshire:\nDecember 12\, 2018; January 10\, 2019; and February 7\, 2019 \nThe fee is $300 per farmer or farm couple. This includes lunch\, refreshments and materials. Participants will get $200 back toward additional succession-related advising. \nInstructors include: \nJon Jaffe\nFarm Business Consultant\nFarm Credit East\njon.jaffe@farmcrediteast.com \nKathy Ruhf\nSenior Advisor\nLand For Good\nkathy@landforgood.org \nAn attorney with expertise in succession planning in each state. \nFor more information or to register\, go to landforgood.org/events. Deadline to register is November 16th. Space is limited!  \nSponsored by Land For Good
