SUMMARY:Building a Rain Garden!
DESCRIPTION:Rain gardens are landscaped depressions designed with soils and a variety of plants to receive and\ntreat rainfall from rooftops\, driveways\, and other impervious surfaces. They help to beautify\nlandscapes\, reduce localized flooding\, and prevent polluted urban stormwater runoff. \nWorkshop begins at the Tele-classroom in Building 101\,\nSpringfield Technology Park\, 1 Federal St.\, Springfield \nLandscape Architect Tom Benjamin and Ecological Designer Keith Zaltzberg will\ncover rain garden design and construction through a hands-on workshop where\nparticipants will gain insights and inspiration for building their own rain gardens.\nTraining includes installation of plants for the new Gardening the Community rain\ngarden at Walnut and James Streets in Springfield. \nThis workshop is part of the Springfield Rain Gardens Program\, a Pioneer Valley\nPlanning Commission project with the Regenerative Design Group\, and is funded by a\nsettlement agreement reached by Clean Water Action\, a non-profit citizens’ group.
