Grand Opening Set for New Atkins Location in North Amherst

The Daily Hampshire Gazette, July 30th, 2015, by Scott Merzbach.

The new Atkins Farms Country Market location will open in North Amherst’s Mill District development in August, with a grand-opening event scheduled for September.

W.D. Cowls President Cinda Jones said this week that work is being completed on refurbishing the old “Cow Palace” barn at 113 Cowls Road that will house the 4,200-square-foot store.

The latest work includes paving the parking lot and completing interior details, such as ceilings and built-in cabinets made with wood cut from Cowls’ timberland and produced at its sawmill.

While the exact day the store will open has not been announced, Jones said a grand-opening celebration is scheduled for Sept. 12 between noon and 3 p.m. Attendees who come dressed as a farm animal or a vegetable will receive a free cider doughnut.

Jones and Atkins staff are also working with the Amherst Together initiative, and collaborating on fundraising for the Amherst Survival Center at the event through cooperation with the Young Professionals of Amherst group.

When Atkins opens, it will join two other businesses in the Mill District that opened earlier this year in the new Trolley Barn building: The Lift hair salon and Bread & Butter restaurant.
