Hiring: Assistant Farm Manager Livestock/Pasture – Hampshire College Farm
The Hampshire College Farm is now accepting applications for a Livestock/Pasture assistant manager. The Hampshire College Farm is a thriving working farm providing the Hampshire College campus and community with organically grown produce and pasture-raised meat, as well as rich educational opportunities. We are seeking an experienced livestock farmer to join our dynamic team.
The assistant manager is responsible for all management duties related to operation of the livestock farm including supervision of student employees and summer interns; production, distribution, and sales of meat and other farm products; the creation and tracking of livestock enterprise budgets; and general farm and field maintenance. The assistant manager will also provide farm-based educational opportunities and programming to students, faculty, and others.
The assistant manager will work with a variety of livestock, including cows, pigs, chickens, sheep, and goats, and is ultimately responsible for farm livestock health, well-being, and general care.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent related experience and a minimum of one season of livestock and pasture management experience (with an emphasis on meat production) or other farm-related experience is required. Successful candidates must have the ability to operate and maintain farm equipment and drive a truck with a livestock trailer; be able to work with multiple species of livestock; and possess exceptional knowledge of agronomic practices and relevant food safety regulations. This position requires a valid driver’s license, a DOT Commercial Driver Medical Certification (or the ability to obtain one) and successful completion of the College’s defensive driving training course. Occasional evening and weekend hours are required. Employment is dependent on successful completion of a pre-employment physical, as this position requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
