Hiring: Paid CISA Intern – Summer Program ELL Instructor

CISA is seeking one to two paid ELL (English Language Learner) instructor interns to work this summer as a part-time English instructor for evening classes in Springfield during a summer program for English language learners. This instructor will support increased access to summer ELL classes for community members working in the local agricultural industry. This internship will be a great opportunity to develop your teaching ability as well as skills in ELL instruction.

Applicants should be fluent in English and have, at minimum, a basic ability to communicate with students in Spanish; moderate to advanced Spanish language ability is preferred. Candidates for the position should have some teaching experience, should be quick learners, and should have demonstrated patience, independence, creativity, flexibility, and excellent organizational skills. In addition, they should have the ability to take initiative and to be sensitive to students’ differing learning styles and needs. Experience with ELL is preferred, but not required. Training and curriculum materials will be provided.

Instructors will be expected to attend a half-day afternoon training session in late June to learn how to implement the summer program’s ELL curriculum and teach classes as part of a small team of instructors. Evening classes will run from July 8th through August 8th, taking place four nights a week, from Monday through Thursday, during all five weeks of the summer session. This position is a paid internship; compensation depends on experience, but will most likely be between $13 and $15/hour. Additional unpaid volunteer instructor/tutor positions and less intensive time commitments may also be available.

Please submit your resume and a cover letter to kristen@buylocalfood.org by June 5, 2019. Applications will be reviewed as soon as they are received.
