Hiring: Cook and Food Educator – Red Fire Farm

Red Fire Farm, an organic veggie farm just down the road from the Book Mill, is looking for a foodie to prep crew lunch this summer and educate our customers about how to make the most local produce.

During our main growing season, the farm cook provides (vegetarian) lunch twice a week for our crew of roughly 35 hungry people. The cook works inside the farmhouse kitchen, using fresh ingredients from our fields as well as grocery items purchased in bulk at Green Fields Market.

Your challenge as cook is to work within a set budget when designing these meals, and ordering items to supplement farm veggies.

Part of Red Fire Farm’s mission is to not only grow great produce, but also to educate people about how to cook and utilize farm fresh produce. Our cook is also tasked with leading cooking demos at farmers markets and at our farm stands in Granby and Montague.

The cook may also be involved with preserving some of our produce for winter markets — freezing fruit, veggies and possibly canning/pickling. If you have some ideas and initiative in this area, we want to hear them!

And the cook will definitely be involved in our main farm events: Strawberry Soiree (a dinner in June); Tomato Festival (a giant party in August) and Harvest Festival (an intimate gathering in October).

The ideal candidate will have a sincere interest in local agriculture, food, vegetables, community education, and enjoy vegetarian cooking.

This is a seasonal position starting in April or May and it runs steadily through October.

Compensation: Hourly wage of $10.00/hr plus unlimited access to delicious, organic produce. Other perks include fresh air, a beautiful working environment and lots of positive feedback from a grateful crew.

Please send applications to jobs@redfirefarm.com with details about previous cooking experience, any examples of recipes you have improvised.
