Hiring: Development Director – NOFA Mass

NOFA/Mass Development Director (Part-time, 15-20 hours/week, Remote)

Opportunity: NOFA/Mass seeks a Development Director to lead our small yet efficient development department, oversee donor relations, manage grant applications and strategize fundraising activities.

The development department is responsible for securing donor relationships and funds to cover a percentage of NOFA/Mass expenses through private donations, fundraisers, grants, and corporate sponsorships.

The Development Director reports directly to the Executive Director.

Responsibilities:

Department Management (approximately 5 hours per week)

  • Oversees the vision and direction of the Development Program: Grants, Appeals, Major Donors, Board Member giving, Membership, Organizational Fundraisers and Corporate Sponsorship Program.
  • Leads the work with the NOFA/Mass Development Committee to maximize the effectiveness of this position and board member involvement in development.
  • Leads and collaborates with the Development Department staff, including the Marketing Director.
  • Meets with Department Directors and Executive Director monthly to keep communication open.

Procurement of Funds (approximately 15 hours per week)

  • Lead grant writing efforts, including: conducting research and receiving research from staff regarding potential opportunities; communicating opportunities to staff to determine viable choices; pulling together appropriate staff for meetings; developing plans and timelines and writing proposals; assuring that proposals are mailed/emailed in a timely fashion to meet deadlines, checking in with appropriate program directors to make sure that grant requirements are being met, and keeping track of all active grants and making sure reports are filed in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with Executive Director to routinely review present and potential major donor prospects for the organization and work together to secure this category of funding. Major focus will be on present donors.
  • Partner with the Development Committee to manage Board Member giving.
  • Collaborate with Education Director to maximize potential funding opportunities for the myriad NOFA/Mass education initiatives – particularly grant-based opportunities.

Candidate Qualifications:

  • Excellent writing skills
  • Excellent research skills
  • Knowledge of the farming, gardening and food access granting landscape
  • Strong capabilities with office technology
  • Timely and organized work habits with a high level of personal responsibility

Other position information:

  • Hours very flexible with some organizational meeting attendance required
  • This job can generally be accomplished from home
  • Employee must attend NOFA/Mass retreats and staff meetings, the winter and summer conferences, Development Department conference calls, and other staff responsibilities.
  • Employee must submit weekly staff reports to the Executive Director, participate in peer reviews of other centrally-hired NOFA/Mass staff and maintain monthly timesheets.

Compensation:

$18-$22/hour dependent on experience.  No health insurance available at this time. Monthly stipend for internet & phone.
