Hiring: farm intern- The Putney School

The Putney School is a progressive independent high school with a working dairy and vegetable farm. We are looking to hire a seasonal farm intern to work in the vegetable gardens and on the farm. The candidate must be reliable, responsible, hard-working, have a positive attitude, and enjoy working on a team. During the spring and fall, the position will involve performing tasks on the farm and in the gardens as needed. This includes supervising some barn chore shifts with student crews during the week and some weekends. During the summer, the intern will work with the garden crew (doing things such as weeding, harvesting, hoeing, etc) and help with farm projects (such as haying) as needed. The position will include some tractor work, as well as other responsibilities which may include, depending on interest and experience: being responsible for direct seeding of crops, working with Putney School Summer Program students, etc. Training will be provided as needed.

During the summer, members of the farm crew are also expected to work a few barn chore shifts on the dairy farm each week, including some weekend shifts, as well as help unloading hay on some weekends. The position will start at around 30 hours a week in March and the beginning of April, and will increase to 45 to 55 hours per week as the season picks up. Position start and end dates are somewhat flexible but are approximately March 15 to October 15. Candidate must be able to perform physical labor and pass a background check. Housing and meals are provided along with a monthly stipend.

Interested candidates should send a resume and cover letter to garden manager Katie Ross Morrison, kross@putneyschool.org. Inquiries will be taken on a rolling basis through Feb 15.
