Hiring: Field Manager – Astarte Farm

Field Manager for Astarte Farm in Hadley, MA

Astarte Farm is seeking an ambitious individual to become its next field manager. The Manager’s primary job will be to help create a field plan for the 2020 growing season and ensure its successful implantation through good leadership and effective communication with customers, management, and the current crew. The field manager is responsible for oversight of, and participation in, daily operations on the farm, including but not limited to, general maintenance, crop planning, seed ordering, propagation, planting, harvesting, and weeding, as well as washing and packing of all produce throughout the year. Astarte Farm is a certified organic vegetable grower with a commitment to sustainability and no- till, no-spray farming practices. Over the years we’ve cultivated partnerships with UMass and other organizations that have allowed us to host many educational workshops, cultivate diverse pollinator habitats, and establish a strong relationship with our local community.

Candidate must:
-Have at least 3 years+ experience working on an organic farm
-Have strong leadership skills and be a great team player
-Be able to maintain Farm’s current efficiency and quality standards
-Be aware of health and safety standards
-Be able to confidently run a tractor for all crew activities
-Have the ability to stand, stoop, bend and lift items up to 55 lbs repetitively unassisted -Have the ability to self-motivate and lead a crew of 3-6 people
-Be detail oriented and well organized

Candidate preferred:
-To have no-till farming experience, or at least active interest in learning
-To have experience planning crop rotation in certified organic system
-To have a general understanding of farm machinery, irrigation, and electrical systems

Most importantly, candidate must be willing to learn and have excellent communication skills.

Compensation/Job Type: hourly, $17+/hr depending on experience. This is a full-time position March-October, with part-time work during off-season.
