Hiring: Field Production Manager – Atlas Farm

Field Production Manager

Atlas Farm is a 95-acre, certified organic, vegetable farm located in Deerfield, MA. We grow and market produce year-round through wholesale accounts, farmers’ markets and our own retail farm store.

The Field Production Manager is an integral part of our farm’s management team responsible for directing all operations pertaining to field grown crops. Duties include: crop planning, sourcing equipment and supplies, land preparation including fertilizer applications and tillage, planting, cultivation, irrigation, pest management, harvesting, and assisting in equipment upkeep.

The Field Production Manager supervises one full-time equipment operator, several part-time equipment operators/crew leaders, and three field crews of 6-10 people per crew. The Manager works closely with the farm owner, Greenhouse Manager, Farm Mechanic, Packing House Manger, and other management staff and crew.

This is a full-time, year-round position with up to 60+ hours/week required during the busy field season from April-November reducing to 30-35 hours/week during the slower months of December-March. Applicants must have at least two years experience in vegetable production with significant experience operating agricultural equipment and managing others. Advanced agricultural training, proficiency with office computing, mechanical aptitude and experience, and handyman skills are desired qualities for applicants, as well. The ideal applicant will have managed field production on our scale in prior employment, but we are also willing to train a strong candidate with some experience and a willingness to learn.

This is a position with long term growth potential at our farm and requires careful attention to detail, a tenacious work ethic, knowledge of vegetable growing practices in our region, and excellent communication skills.
