NOFA/Mass Grant Writer – Job Description – 10 hours per week

The NOFA/Mass Grant Writer is responsible for leading grant writing activities within NOFA/Mass. It is a 10-hour-per-week position.

The person in this position leads grant writing efforts, including:

  • Conducting research and receiving research from staff regarding potential opportunities
  • Communicating opportunities to staff to determine viable choices
  • Pulling together appropriate staff for meetings; developing plans and timelines and writing proposals
  • Assuring that proposals are mailed/emailed in a timely fashion to meet deadlines
  • Working with appropriate program directors to make sure that grant requirements are being met
  • Taking responsibility for keeping track of all active grants and making sure reports are filed in a timely manner
  • Working under the direct supervision of the Executive Director on all aspects of grant writing – state, federal and private

 Requirements for this position

  • Excellent writing skills
  • Excellent research skills
  • Knowledge of the farming, gardening and food access granting landscape
  • Strong capabilities with office technology
  • Timely and organized work habits with a high level of personal responsibility

 Other position information

  • Hours very flexible with some organizational meeting attendance required
  • This job can generally be accomplished from home
  • Employee must attend NOFA/Mass retreats and staff meetings, the winter and summer conferences, Development Department conference calls, and other staff responsibilities.
  • Employee must submit weekly staff reports to the Executive Director, participate in peer reviews of other centrally-hired NOFA/Mass staff and maintain monthly timesheets.
  • Employee must provide appropriate basic office equipment to facilitate working from home.

 Salary/Remuneration:

  • Pay rate between $18-$22/hour based on experience.

Corporate Sponsor Director – 20 hours per week

The Corporate Sponsorship Director is responsible for generating revenue annually by securing sponsorships, exhibitors and advertisers, and through other marketing and sales activities.

 The person in this position:

  • Identifies, fosters, and secures relationships and partnerships with like-minded corporations, small businesses and non-profits to support NOFA/Mass programming.
  • Sells and manages:
    • Corporate Sponsorships
    • Sponsorships for the Winter and Summer Conferences
    • Sponsorships for Education Events and Grower Seminars
    • Exhibit space for the Winter and Summer Conferences and advertising for the Summer and Winter Conference Program Books
    • Advertising for the online Organic Food Guide
    • Advertising for the NOFA/Mass Newsletter
    • Advertising and sponsorships for the Webinar Series
    • Advertising and sponsorships for the Podcast Series

 Responsibilities include:

  • Developing collaterals for the various sponsorship activities
  • Marketing the Corporate Sponsorship Program and monitoring all the aspects involved with it
  • Marketing and selling all revenue producing products, and collecting related payments for transmission to the Central Office
  • Working under the direct supervision of the Executive Director on all aspects of Corporate Marketing
  • Developing new sponsorship products to stay current with trends in the market
  • Employee must attend NOFA/Mass retreats and staff meetings, the Winter and Summer Conferences, Development Department conference calls, and other staff responsibilities.
  • Employee must submit weekly staff reports to the Executive Director, participate in peer reviews of other centrally-hired NOFA/Mass staff and maintain monthly timesheets

Salary/Remuneration

  • This position pays between $18-$22 per hour depending on experience.

We would prefer that this position also holds The Natural Farmer advertiser position but it is not a requirement.

Membership and Database Coordinator – 14 hours per week

The Membership and Database Coordinator is responsible for keeping membership information and contact records up to date while promoting the benefits of membership with NOFA/Mass.

 Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Administrative processing of membership payments
  • Facilitating monthly and annual mailings for member reminders and appeals
  • Running regular reports and creating queries for other staff members as needed
  • Emailing members regarding reminders, confirmations and Q &A
  • Making welcome phone calls to new members
  • Working with the Executive Director to make personal phone calls to lapsed members
  • Managing production of thank you letters to individual donors in conjunction with the Executive Director
  • Providing administrative support to the Executive Director and Administrative Director
  • Promoting membership via multiple avenues throughout the year, including in person at events, through written material and by analyzing trends
  • Updating constituent contact record information
  • Verifying membership status and approving member benefits
  • Updating membership listings on the NOFA/Mass website
  • Serving as liaison for the organization-wide customer relationship management database

Qualifications must include:

  • A strong commitment to and understanding of organic farming
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • A strong capacity to manage details, remain on schedule and be timely with communications
  • Professional management of physical materials and confidential information
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent and timely organizational skills
  • Proficiency in Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite and Dropbox
  • CRM database experience preferred

 Position Details

  • Employee must maintain a current NOFA/Mass membership.
  • Employee must provide appropriate basic office equipment to facilitate working from home.
  • Weekly travel to the central office in Barre, MA is required for this position.

Organic Food Guide Coordinator – 3 hours per week

The Organic Food Guide Coordinator is responsible for managing The Organic Food Guide, an online searchable resource for organic and sustainable food and farm products in Massachusetts and beyond.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Recruiting new farm and business listings
  • Facilitating the submission and updates of listings
  • Managing user logins and creating listings as requested
  • Communication with listees as needed
  • Promoting the OFG to a wide, consumer-based audience
  • Incorporating and promoting membership with NOFA/Mass within the OFG
  • Contributing to funding efforts to support the OFG

Qualifications must include:

  • A strong commitment to and understanding of organic farming
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Experience with writing, graphics and digital marketing
  • Proficiency in Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, Dropbox and WordPress

Fundraising Coordinator – 4 hours per week

NOFA/Mass conducts two major fundraisers per year.

  1. The Annual Organic to Heal the Planet Run/Walk in conjunction with the Genesis Battlegreen Run Foundation on the first Sunday in November. – expected gross – $20,000
  2. A fundraising dinner at the close of the NOFA/Mass Winter Conference each 2nd Saturday in January at Worcester State University – expected ticket sales – $2,500

 Qualifications must include:

  • A strong commitment to and understanding of organic farming
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • A strong capacity to manage details, remain on schedule and be timely with communications

Responsibilities Include but are not limited to

  • Raises the budgeted dollars per year in the implementation of the Genesis Battlegreen Run and the Post Winter Conference dinner
  • Works with the Development Committee to identify, plan, and implement this fundraising event.
  • Manages research and planning for expansion of these events
  • Crafts a marketing plan with timeline and goals.
  • Acts as a liaison between NOFA/Mass and event hosts
  • Works with the Communications Director to support marketing efforts for each event.
  • Recruits and coordinates Team NOFA/Mass for the walk/run
  • Participates in Development committee calls, staff meetings, board/staff meetings as required.
  • Reports directly and regularly to the Executive Director

 Position Details

  • Employee must maintain a current NOFA/Mass membership.
  • Employee must provide appropriate basic office equipment to facilitate working from home.
  • Reliable internet, phone, and transportation is required to perform this position.
  • Conference calls are a regular part of working for NOFA/Mass.
