Hiring: Multiple Positions – Next Barn Over Farm

Next Barn Over Farm is hiring for positions in several areas. Now in our fourteenth season, Next Barn Over is a queer-owned and operated 50-acre organic vegetable farm in Hadley, MA. We grow forty crops for our 700-member CSA and many local markets, restaurants, and grocery stores.

Positions Available:

Farm Crew and Washroom Assistants:

Full and part-time positions, starting May/June and going through November.

Farm crew are involved in all aspects of crop production such as seeding, transplanting, weeding, harvesting, and post-harvest handling, and include specialized roles in tractor operation, farmers market, greenhouse, washroom, and CSA distribution. Washroom assistants specialize in all post-harvest activities (washing, sorting, packing, cooling, organizing, and delivery) and work alongside crew in general farm work.

Farm-Store Manager:

30-40 hours/week, May/June through October (can be combined with other positions to extend the season)

Responsible for setting up and staffing our CSA farm stand; assisting customers with welcoming, friendly service; maintaining a clean, well-stocked, and organized store, coolers, barn, and PYO area (this includes weekly mowing and minor carpentry); keeping inventories, setting share volumes, ordering and picking up goods and supplies, and communicating with harvest and washroom managers.

Assistant Farm Manager:

Responsible for leading our six-person farm crew efficiently through daily harvests and fieldwork. Assisting farm manager with establishing weekly and daily task and harvest lists. Assigning and implementing tasks during day-to-day operation, and adjusting plans as weather, timing, and other factors mandate. Assisting during off-season with farm and crop planning, ordering, and hiring. Applicants must have excellent organization and communication skills, be able to move efficiently through tasks and inspire others to do the same, and have a minimum of 3 years farm experience in a similar operation. Spanish-language is a plus.

  • Licensed driver, comfortable operating farm vehicles
