Hiring: Part Time Farm Work – Wingate Farm

At Wingate Farm we strive to grow healthy, delicious eggs, produce, flowers, and meat while responsibly and humanely caring for our soils and animals. We are not certified organic, but all of our animals are fed 100% organic, non-gmo grain from Green Mountain Feeds. Our 1000 laying hens are rotationally grazed on 14 acres of green pasture April through November, and housed in high-tunnels during the winter months. We are steadily incorporating no-till practices into our vegetable production, using solarization and compost smothering techniques to limit weed pressure and increase soil health and fertility. We are not a highly mechanized farm, and most of our field work is done with hand tools, not tractors.  Wingate Farm sits in the CT river valley. We are located directly over the border of Northfield MA into NH. We are an easy 10 minute drive to I-91 in Bernardston MA, allowing for easy access to Northampton, Amherst, and the five college area. We are also a 15 minute drive to Brattleboro VT, and a 20 minute drive to Greenfield MA.

We are hiring one to two self-motivated part time employee(s) for the 2018 growing season. We are a tight knit crew–consisting of two farmers and 1-2 part-time helpers. Our employees work alongside the farmers but are often set-up on solo tasks.  Applicants must have at least one year of farming (or related) experience, a desire to learn multiple facets of our small diverse operation, and work hard in a quick paced yet supportive and fun environment. Workers will be expected to move between a variety of farm tasks in a given day, so focus and attention to detail are paramount. These tasks include: field work (bed prep, weeding, mulching, transplanting, solarizing); harvest, washing, and packing produce for farmers markets and wholesale; and animal husbandry and related chores (feeding and watering pigs and chickens, moving coops and fence, collecting, washing, and packaging eggs, assisting with on farm chicken processing). Employees work Mondays and Fridays from 7am-4pm, with an occasional extra day as required. On average this works out to about 20 hours a week from June-October. Additional hours in April and May are available if desired. Compensation will be $12/hr with an additional weekly supply of veggies, eggs, flowers, and some meat.  If interested in the position, please email us your resume to info@wingate-farm.com.
