Pollinator Network Coordinator
Part-time, 20 hours per week
Remote position with generally self-directed and flexible schedule. Applicants must live in Massachusetts or neighboring state. Occasional travel within Massachusetts and occasional evening and weekend availability is required.

NOFA/Mass (Northeast Organic Farming Association, Massachusetts Chapter) seeks a coordinator to build upon the momentum of the Western Mass Pollinators Network and integrate it with the work of the Community Pesticides Reduction (CPR) Network and the NOFA/Mass Policy Department.
With a unifying vision of “protecting native pollinators” (and insect biodiversity more generally) this staff member will work in close coordination with the NOFA/Mass Policy Director, to facilitate coalition efforts to protect and expand pollinator habitats and reduce the use of biocides in landscapes across the Commonwealth.
The Pollinator Network Coordinator is responsible for forming a communications hub for the statewide movement, convening a “steering group” of native pollinator and native plant subject matter experts and prominent advocates, and organizing/curating educational events and resources related to pollinator protection.
The Pollinator Network Coordinator reports directly to the NOFA/Mass Policy Director.
Funding for this position is secured through April 2022 and will be an ongoing position contingent on continued funding.
Serve as a liaison and establish a communications hub for the statewide movement to protect native pollinators. (40%, ~ 8 hours/week)
- Create/maintain and curate communication forums (listserv’s, Facebook groups, etc) for advocates, collaborating non-profits and local initiatives
- Establish a social media presence for the Network (help it grow)
- Write/send pertinent network announcements
- Field questions and direct inquiries to subject matter experts, as needed
- Co-facilitate the Community Pesticides Reduction (CPR) networkwith Community Action Works (CAW)
- Curate online educational resources – maintain a website for the Network, specifically for residents, towns, institutions, and activists. Subjects including:
- Creating native pollinator habitat, native plant lists
- Understanding native pollination systems
- Materials for local policy (resolutions, ordinances)
- List of regional nurseries and growers selling native, non-treated plants
- Demonstration campaigns “in a box” to show people what we’re trying to do
Organize and curate educational events/materials (40%, ~8 hours/week)
- Plan events for residents, gardeners, professional landscapers, municipal and institutional employees
- Maintain an online calendar of any native pollinator-related events statewide
- Record and curate expert presentations, webinars, etc.
- Curate “open source” PowerPoint presentations and other materials
Convene a “steering committee” of native pollinator and native plant subject matter experts and prominent advocates to work together. (10%, ~2 hours/week)
- Develop a shared vision and strategy for expanding pollinator habitats
- Build relationships with key agencies, researchers and non-profits
- Curate a speakers’ bureau of experts and advocates
- Review plant lists and other educational information to be disseminated through the website and other publications
Administrative (10%, ~2 hours/week)
- Submit weekly staff reports to the Executive Director, participate in peer reviews of other centrally-hired NOFA/Mass staff and maintain monthly timesheets and reimbursement records.
- Attend and contribute to NOFA/Mass Policy Committee meetings and other committee meetings as applicable.
- Meet regularly with the NOFA/Mass Policy Director
The successful candidate will offer:
- A strong commitment to and knowledge of pollinators, native plants andorganic/regenerative farming practices
- Strong writing and speaking skills
- Ability to work independently from home with minimal supervision and maintain a collaborative nature as a team member
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, website maintenance (WordPress), social media and email communications
- Experience with group facilitation and coalition-building
Ideal candidate may also have:
- Knowledge of agricultural issues, programs, and policies at the state and/or federal level
- A background in botany, entomology, horticulture, permaculture, native plants
- Ability to create and edit videos and images
Other position information:
- Hours very flexible with some onsite and virtual organizational meeting attendance required
- This job can generally be accomplished from home
- Employee must provide appropriate basic office equipment to facilitate working remotely
- Employee must attend NOFA/Mass retreats and staff meetings, the winter and summer conferences, virtual department meetings, and complete other staff responsibilities
$18-$22/hour dependent on experience. No health insurance available at this time. Monthly stipend for internet & phone. One week of paid vacation time after one year of employment.
