Hiring: South Hadley Farmers’ Market Manager

The Market Manager is a part time position with primary responsibility being the day-to-day operation of the South Hadley Farmers’ Market. This will include an on-site presence at the market during all market hours throughout the 2018 season, Thursdays June 14th – October 11th, as well as offsite work during non-market hours.

Duties—in season

  • Must be available to set up and staff manager table during all market hours
  • Oversee and assist with setup, organization, and break down of each market
  • Vendor management, including facilitating the application/approval process, developing site layout, monitoring vendor compliance with permits and licensing, and collecting and tracking vendor fees
  • Ongoing new vendor recruitment; insuring vendor attendance of at least 10-12 vendors per market day
  • Coordinate entertainment and special events with assistance from the board
  • Assist board treasurer with accounting process
  • Act as liaison to the market’s board of directors, providing accounting and performance reports
  • Support marketing through social media posting and outreach as needed

Duties—off season

  • Vendor recruitment
  • Plan summer calendar, including music/entertainment contacts, before market begins
  • Preparations for next season

Qualifications

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Excellent written, verbal, and basic computer skills
  • Leadership skills—ability to make quick, sound, fair decisions for the good of then market
  • Self-motivated and directed
  • Working knowledge of SNAP and other community resource programs related to food security
  • Passionate about the community and value of local, fresh food and direct marketing
  • Ability to lift 50lbs and move over uneven terrain safely

Compensation
This position is paid $2500-$3000 per market season based on experience and market success. The Manager position is for an independent contractor and does not include benefits.
