Hiring: Vegetable Manager – Real Pickles
Real Pickles Vegetable Manager (Greenfield)
compensation: $19-20/hour depending on experience

Real Pickles is a worker co-operative in Greenfield, MA, producing raw, naturally fermented pickles from Northeast-grown, organic vegetables. Our mission is to promote human and ecological health by providing people with delicious, nourishing food and by working toward a regional, organic food system in the Northeast.
We are seeking a highly qualified, committed individual to fill the role of vegetable manager at Real Pickles. The vegetable manager’s primary responsibilities include:
*working with our Northeast organic farm partners to annually procure 300,000+ pounds of vegetables,
*managing ingredient inventory and quality assurance,
*scheduling production shifts to process vegetables for fermentation,
*managing product recipes, and
*overseeing organic certification.
Responsibilities also include:
Working with the production manager and fermentation manager to oversee all production activities, and
Participating in the physically-demanding and repetitive work of preparing fresh vegetables for fermentation during the harvest season and packaging finished product throughout the year.
Possible future responsibilities include shared management of day-to-day kitchen activities.

We are seeking an individual for this position who:
is passionate about Real Pickles’ social mission;
*has 3+ years of experience working in commercial organic food businesses or on organic farms;
*has 2+ years of experience working in a management role;
*has strong vegetable and agricultural knowledge;
*has outstanding interpersonal and communication skills;
*is hard-working, highly organized and detail-oriented, with excellent math, problem-solving, and computer skills;
*has significant experience and familiarity with food safety and proper food handling techniques (Servsafe *certification preferred) and working with and adapting recipes;
*is prepared to make a firm commitment to this job for the full upcoming growing season, and ideally beyond.
Schedule: 20-30 hours per week, including at least 4 days per week during summer and fall.
Compensation includes competitive wage, health insurance (if working 30 or more weekly hours), paid time off, and IRA retirement plan.
