Hiring: Warner Farm – CSA and Market Manager

Farm Description: Warner Farm is a 10th generation diversified small fruit and vegetable farm located in Sunderland, Ma. We grow over 175 acres of both IPM (150 ac.) and certified organic (25 ac.) crops for wholesale throughout the Pioneer Valley as well as operate a 400-member CSA and attend farmers markets in Eastern Massachusetts. In the fall, Warner Farm is also home to Mike’s Maze, the Pioneer Valley’s world famous corn maze, and Zombie Night Patrol, our premier haunted paintball attraction. Job Description: The overall goal is to increase the customer base of the farm’s CSA program (to 500 members) and at farmer’s markets while promoting a positive image of Warner Farm to staff and customers. Warner Farm operates a 400 member CSA at 4 different pickup locations and currently attends 2 farmer’s markets. This key manager is responsible for communicating directly with the public to ensure customer satisfaction. Throughout our 20 week CSA, this manager is responsible for developing weekly CSA shares and newsletters as well as all staff scheduling for CSA and market staff. This position reports the Business Manager.

 Duties include in priority order: Manage, track, and oversee the distribution of all CSA shares and add-ons (fruit, eggs, and flowers); customer satisfaction; Lead training of all CSA and Market staff; Schedule, supervise, and manage all CSA and market staff (5-6 people); coordinate with Farm Crew Leader, Business Manager, and Production Managers to develop the weekly share list; communicate share list to members through a weekly newsletter; manage and communicate with CSA membership base using Small Farm Central and MailChimp; help coordinate harvests with other farm management to ensure shares are accurate and cost effective; answer questions and emails from CSA members in a timely and courteous manner; track overall CSA budget including expenses and income and provide end of year summary; develop a fair schedule for farmer’s market staff; attend markets as needed; attend CSA pick-ups as needed; flexibility, cooperation, and a team approach are essential in the completion of all duties;

Requirements:

  • 1-3 years experience in communicating with the public
  • Ability to develop and track CSA shares in an organized manner
  • 1-2 years managing and supervising staff
  • 1-2 years experience using Microsoft Excel and MailChimp

Preferred skills:

  • Previous farm experience
  • Previous sale and marketing experience

This is a year-round position requiring up to 50 hours per week during the height of the season (May-October) and decreasing to 10-20 hours a week during the winter. Compensation based on experience.
