Located in the Montague Bookmill at 440 Greenfield Rd in Montague, the Alvah Stone restaurant takes it's name from Alvah Stone, who in 1832 first harnessed the power of the Sawmill River by building and operating Stone's Gristmall on the site. Aug.19-20 are Local Hero Restaurant Days, a community event organized and promoted by South Deerfield-based Community Involved in Sustaining Agriculture (CISA).

During the two-day celebration 54 participating restaurants from across the Pioneer Valley will be featuring dishes prepared with locally grown ingredients.

The Farm Table at Kringle Candle in Bernardston will be offering a special caprese salad made with locally-raised heirloom tomaotes. A Touch of Garlic in Springfield will be putting together bruschetta in which local tomatoes will also play a staring role.

Other operations such as the West End Pub (Shelburne Falls), Hope and Olive (Greenfield), and The Alvah Stone (Montague) will be offering creations that showcase the efforts of local farmers.

Those dining at particpating restaurants during Local Hero Restaurant Days can enter to win several gift certificates.
