Longtime farmers’ marketeer to open store in Amherst

MassLive, July 17, 2017, by Phil Demers

A longtime Amherst Farmers’ Market participant is moving up in the world with his own stand, Daily Hampshire Gazette reports.

After 18 years selling directly to the public at Spring Street and Boltwood Avenue, Simple Gifts Farm owner Jeremy Barker-Plotkin will open up the stand in North Amherst, at at 1089 North Pleasant St., for the first time Saturday.

Potential customers can expect to find there the same types of organic vegetables, meats and eggs Simple Gifts typically brings to the market, alongside the products of other local farmers.

Barker-Plotkin runs Simple Gifts together with farming partner David Tepfer. The pair operate 20 acres in organic vegetable production and 20 acres in pasture for the animals, according to The Gazette.

Timberpoint Building Co. built the new stand, a $187,000 project supported by a U.S. Department of Agriculture grant.
