Pumpkins Could Be Smaller This Fall

You might notice something a little different about some pumpkins this Fall. Some of them might a smaller due to the drought.

The lack of rain here in western Massachusetts has been affecting residents, and especially local farmers.

This fall season some of the bigger orange pumpkins you are used to seeing might be slightly smaller due to the drought.

22News went to McCray’s Farms in South Hadley, who told 22News, some of the pumpkins might be smaller than usual. But most of the crops are much better than anticipated.

Steve McCray, Owner of McCray’s Farms, told 22News, “We’re not in really bad shape because we got the crop in the ground, its growing, some plants are smaller, the pumpkins might be smaller, but its all there.”

McCray went on to tell 22News this season has been the driest he has ever seen. He was fortunate that he has 80 to almost 90 % of his crops this season.

Parts of western Massachusetts continues to stay in a severe drought.
