Grants and Financing

There are a wide variety of grants and financing options that can help you expand your business, facilitate new infrastructure for your farm, or provide needed capital. We’ve compiled a list of financing opportunities, along with a number of state and federal grant programs, that can help you secure the funding you need for your goals. Grant Programs Currently Accepting Proposals

Northeast SARE Farmer Grants
Deadline: December 5, 2017
Farmer grants are for commercial producers who have an innovative idea they want to test using a field trial, on-farm demonstration, marketing initiative, or other technique. A technical advisor–often an extension agent, crop consultant, or other service professional–must also be involved. Find more details here.

Agricultural Climate Resiliency & Efficiencies (ACRE) Grant
Deadline: December 5, 2017
The Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources (MDAR) is now accepting applications for its new Agricultural Climate Resiliency & Efficiencies (ACRE) Program.  ACRE is a competitive, reimbursement grant program that funds projects that address the agricultural sector’s vulnerability to climate change, improves economic resiliency and advances the general goals identified in the Massachusetts Local Food Action Plan. Agricultural operations selected to participate in the Program will be awarded up to 80% of the total project costs up to $50,000. Value Added Producer Grant (VAPG)
Deadline: January 31, 2018
The program helps agricultural producers enter into value-added activities related to the processing and/or marketing of new products. USDA Business and Cooperatives Specialist Christine Kimball, can review, critique, and provide a preliminary score on your application if sent well in advance of the deadline; reach her via email or at 413-253-4329.
