Vermont Youth Conservation Corps

ABOUT

We, the Vermont Youth Conservation Corps, believe young people change the world. VYCC Crew Members (15-26 year olds) and Crew Leaders (19+ year olds) join VYCC for a challenging experience, practical and hands-on work, personal growth, and deep connection to the natural world by working on farm and conservation crews across the state. Through this work, it’s VYCC’s mission to teach young people personal responsibility through meaningful work that connects us to the land, community, and one another.

Over 250 young people will get paid to be a part of our award winning Conservation and Food & Farm programs.

JOB DESCRIPTION

VYCC’s Food and Farm Program is a dynamic youth development and food security initiative. It engages young people in sustainable farming to improve access to healthy foods in Vermont communities. The Food and Farm Program grows produce and poultry for the VYCC Health Care Share, a public health project connecting Vermont families who are unable to access fresh food and/or suffer from diet related diseases with a weekly CSA share distributed at their health center. Additionally, Food and Farm Crew Members receive a share of the vegetables grown and engage in cooking projects on the farm that build their skills in healthy food preparation.

The AmeriCorps (A*C) Project Leads are key seasonal leadership positions in the Food and Farm Program, which supports almost 70 young people with jobs and service opportunities by engaging in small groups we call crews. Each A*C Project Lead is responsible for particular food production, nutrition education, food security or youth development activities. Together, their service results in a collaborative effort to mentor youth and young adults while increasing the health and wellbeing of Health Care Share Member-families.

COMPENSATION

Stipend, Housing, Segal Education Award, and vegetables/farm share
