WMass restaurant news: Local Hero Restaurant Days, Harvest Supper and more

South Deerfield-based Community Involved in Sustaining Agriculture (CISA) is once again promoting Local Hero Restaurant Days, the organization's annual celebration of area restaurant that support local famers and food producers. Local Hero Restaurant Days will be observed on August 25 and 26, with nearly 70 restaurants from across the Pioneer Valley involved. This year CISA is also sponsoring a Local Hero Restaurant Raffle, and the grand prize is a wine dinner for six at the Center Square Grill in East Longmeadow. For details on how to enter the raffle go to buylocalfood.org/local-hero-restaurant-raffle. The annual Free Harvest Supper will be held on the Greenfield Town Common on Aug. 23. Open and free to all, the Supper will run from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The events menu features locally grown food prepared by area chefs. There will also be live music, children's activities, and educational displays. A "Really, Really Free Market,? at which those attending can choose from produce that has been donated by area farmers and gardeners, is also part of the occasion. To conserve resources and help the Free Harvest Supper reach its goal of being a trash-free event, all attending are encouraged to bring their own reusable place settings and napkins.

The third in this summer's series of Farmers' Dinners at the Salem Cross Inn in West Brookfield is planned for Aug. 26.

Featuring a menu built around locally raised pork, the dinner will begin at 6 p.m. with an al fresco tasting of nibbles from local sources. The four-course dinner itself will be held in the barn starting at 7 p.m.

The Publick House Historic Inn in Sturbridge will be hosting a "Publick House Cooks for Community" buffet feast on Aug. 24.

The menu is an Italian feast featuring ziti with tomato sauce, meatballs, pasta primavera, and garlic bread. Salad, soft drinks, and dessert are also included in the $13 cash donation.

The event is casual, with open seating and no reservations taken. Two start times are planned, one at 4:30 p.m. and a second at 6:30 p.m. Contact the Publick House at (508) 347-3313 for more details.

The modern day children's classic "Fancy Nancy" is turning ten, and Chandler's Restaurant at the Yankee Candle Village in South Deerfield will be celebrating that milestone with a 10th Anniversary Party on Aug. 29.

A tea party menu is planned for the luncheon, which begins at 11 a.m. A first course of fruit salad and cheese will be offered, followed by mini muffins and croissants. Tea sandwiches ? peanut butter and jelly, cucumber and cream cheese, and ham and cheese ? will be served next; the tea menu will conclude with cupcakes and chocolate dipped pretzels.

Participants are encouraged to dress in their "Fancy Nancy" best, and a reading from the 10th anniversary edition of the book will be part of the celebration.
