Hiring: Living Lands Program Manager – Eastie Farm

Eastie Farm is a community-based non-profit organization in East Boston, Massachusetts. that pursues climate justice, food security, and community resilience through urban agriculture, education, and the building of an equitable local food system. 

Eastie Farm’s Living Lands program aims to develop growing spaces that serve as learning centers, neighborhood hubs, and examples of climate-positive land use. The Program Manager oversees all of Eastie Farms’ sites, Living Lands program staff and volunteers, and is responsible for documentation of metrics and program activities.

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Ensure excellent utilization and upkeep of all properties at all times – this is a place-based role at a place-based organization; there will be lots of time spent onsite!
  2. Participate actively in organizational annual budget, focusing on Living Lands
  3. Supervise and support the growth of direct reports
  4. Supervise and manage Living Lands staff and Climate Corps Participants 
  5. Support other programs as needed
  6. Document plan, activities, and metrics promptly
  7. Ensure government and grant compliance 
  8. Be on the look out and take every opportunity to increase regenerative green spaces

Program Management:

  1. Manage, promote and grow the sale of hydroponic vegetables and mushrooms in the container farms. This includes training, scheduling, purchasing, ordering, business development, and facilities management.
  2. Manage annual seedling sale
  3. Keep inventories, needs lists and wish list of prospective projects or capital expenditures collaborate with other program managers to support the overall mission of Eastie Farm
  4. Maintain presence with and contribute to: city and statewide agricultural, and nature based solutions communities; monitor and be aware of federal action in the same areas. 
  5. Work with development manager to provide program details for grant applications and grant reports
  6. Support Organization fundraising efforts
  7. Support working relationships with funders
  8. Lead Eastie Farm tours and field trips to the sites

Organization Wide:

  1. Collaborates with other departments
  2. Performs team-related duties and coverage as required
  3. Performs duties in accordance with Eastie Farm’s standard policies and procedures
  4. Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications: Experience with agriculture, regenerative land use, plant care, people & project management, collaborative document management systems (e.g. google drive), ability to lift and carry 50 pounds, valid driver’s license and capable of driving large vehicles. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience (e.g. 6 years work experience in roles with administrative / project management aspects).

Preferred Qualifications: Bilingual in English and Spanish, equipment management, general knowledge of structural upkeep of things (handy), ability to problem solve quickly & efficiently. Experience hiring contractors. Able to keep up pleasant relationships with abutters. 

Full-time (40 hours/week) schedule; some evening and weekend availability required

$65K-$75k depending on experience & qualification, plus benefits ($23,000 approximate value, including paid time off, retirement with employer match, PD and continuing education support, and others)
