Bee School, Session 3 & 4 of 6: Spring Hive Dive and Swarm Management & Package Installation

April 18, 2015 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Spring Hive Dive & Swarm Management
During this springtime apiary inspection, participants will have the opportunity to open an active, overwintered hive.  We will begin the workshop by opening hives to check on spring development.  We will discuss bee activity within the hive, hive management on a natural system, splitting and brood nest spacing. Bring a veil and hive tool if you have them.  Registration for those without veils will be limited.  Anyone with a veil may register.

Package Installation
This introductory workshop will cover honeybee hive installation as well as springtime management for a newly installed hive.  There will be a live demonstration installing a honeybee package.  If you are about to receive honeybees this spring, this is definitely the workshop for you! Please bring your veil, if you have one.  Feeding, life cycle of the colony, hive expansion will be covered in this workshop.

Bee packages come from the out of state, where package production is dependent on local weather. Delivery date may change and therefore, in order to provide participants with a live installation demonstration, the workshop date might change as well.  We will take pre-registrations and will let you know in case of date change.  Because of the floating date, payment will be collected on-site.
