Flexible Farmers Workshop with Lydia Irons

June 1, 2013 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm

With the Starseed Farm Project well underway, we welcome you to join us in a day-long retreat of connecting with the land and one another in a way that nourishes us all. Lydia Irons is a licensed massage therapist who specializes in teaching farmers and gardeners how to safely and effectively use common farm tools such as shovels, rakes and hoes so that we can be productive in our work and still take care of our most important tools of all, our bodies. After a community-style potluck lunch, there will be opportunities to schedule individual massages with Lydia, put your new-learned skills to work in our garden, and explore the extensive Starseed grounds.

Lydia’s 90-minute workshop will cover:

Functional anatomy (what everyone should know about their body)
The Four Rules for good body mechanics (economy of movement, protecting joint space, assessing the task and body positioning)
Injury prevention tips (how to warm up, maintain and restore from the work you do)
How to maintain the overall health of the working body and care tips for problem places
Handouts and Q&A
