Life and Spirit of Soil Workshop and Farm Tour

August 8, 2015 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

On Saturday August 8 at 10am, Seeds of Solidarity on Chestnut Hill Road in Orange offers an inspiring tour of their farm led by founders Ricky Baruc and Deb Habib. Visitors will gain ideas for their own lives as they learn about Seeds of Solidarity’s solar greenhouses, no-till cardboard methods for abundant low maintenance gardens, solar electric and hot water systems, energy efficient buildings, and youth and community programs that Grow Food Everywhere! There is no cost or pre-registration and all are welcome; donations to support Seeds of Solidarity’s youth and community programs are always appreciated. After the tour, visitors are welcome to enjoy a potluck lunch with others. Also on August 8th, Seeds of Solidarity farmer and founder Ricky Baruc offers a workshop entitled Life and Spirit of the Soil from 1-4PM,  Ricky will teach his approaches to building soil and nourishing soil life for low maintenance, highly productive gardens. Creating natural fertilizers with local resources will also be addressed. Treating the soil as sacred results the most nourishing food, and ways of growing that mitigate the impacts of climate change, and a more ceremonial relationship with that which sustains us. Ricky is one of 11 farmers across the nation participating in advising research and practice in sustainable no-till methods in partnership with Cornell University. Pre-registration for the afternoon workshop is recommended by calling 978-544-9023 or solidarity@seedsofsolidarity.org, and there is a modest sliding-scale fee. Directions to and information about Seeds of Solidarity and their full schedule of events and workshops can be found at www.seedsofsolidarity.org.
