Low-Tech Winter Gardening: Tools, Tactics, and Principals

January 3, 2016 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

This is a practical, inspiring, basic-level primer on winter growing techniques (“keeping food alive”) using cold-hardy cultivars, aggressive timing, propagational ingenuity and (high and low tunnel) “hoophouses”. The workshop is probably appropriate for backyard growers, “wannabes”, and small farmers, alike…

This hands-on, Sunday morning class, presented by Laughing Dog Farm manager Danny Botkin, will focus on the practical details of cold weather horticulture/gardening, including (high and low) hoophouse construction, management, winter crop selection, radical compost/soil building, cold weather harvesting and processing tips, plus a demonstration of “guerrilla” cookery, (and a shared, vegetarian farm lunch!) There will also be a demonstration of LDF’s homemade, pipe (EMT conduit) bender, used for making low-tunnel, steel “hoops”. Participants are invited to return to LDF at their convenience to bend their own hoops. Suggested donation, $25-$45… RSVP @ 413-863-8696
